Brand New : DNA – Kama Kawaida

DNA

His acronym name actually stands for Dreams N Ambitions contrary to popular belief that there is some scientific association. DNA and the whole JOMINO crew have had an interesting year, they (or rather he) DNA managed to secure a large contract with the Government of Kenya to supply their theme song Banjuka through the zinduka campaign. Rumor has it, that the types of figures thrown or paid off to license that track were quite large.

Either way – he has been making hits since then, this new track landed on my laps afew weeks ago. It has an interesting flow, but feels more like a Jingle track to me. A fusion of that dirty south sound and some genge – repetitive hooks and some south slur, simple rhymes and lyrics. Either way its a sure shot radio play and I think the stations in Kenya will be going crazy with this one.

The copy I have skips a little in the beginning but quality still on point.

It happens over and over again. A record company struggles for years to break out. Their main/founding artist gets a lucky break that throws the company into the premier league. Suddenly, an influx of refugees begin hounding the company for record deals. The company can no longer give special attention to the man that spear-headed their break-out. The artist leaves for greener pastures. It happened to Nonini and Calif, its happening to DNA and Jomino, it will happen to others as well in the future. Kama Kawaida shows the unmistakable Chemistry between DNA and Jomino. They seem to know what he likes, in turn he “Bigs them up” through-out the track. I would hate to see him go, but only he who wears the shoe knows where it hurts right? I like the fact that DNA did not collabo on this one. Collabos mesh artists pamoja and you can’t even do a 30-minute set without your “jogoos”. Mr Lenny learn’t this lesson haraka.. and gave up the title. Who’s the new Kenyan King of Collabo?
