Lovy Logomba CEO and founder of Badman Productions has been low key over the last few months working busy on the new LOGOMBAS album. Whats interesting is that Lovy is now behind the sound, the beats, the music, the writing, the arrangement and practically everything that will come out of the Logombas album. Whats more interesting is that the collabo slated for the upcoming album is between Lovy and Benji (Afro Merica Records) which is the label behind Aida Onyango.
This track just got sambazwad today and Lovy and his team are asking for constructive feedback and criticisms.
My personal opinion is this is not the Logombas I know, its definitely not the style and approach I expected them to go but none the less the sound is very interesting. I personally have a major problem with them English singing – but I can imagine their management is trying to get them to penetrate the US market. Of course with the use of Auto Tune – their vocal capacity is upped a little and we can expect them to be more creative vocally. So to me I am not sure if this will sit well with Kenyans in general, but it might sit well with the US/UK Market thats not hyper critical about their Genge. This site is flooded with fans of Kapuka and Genge – it would be amazing to see what they think of this track.
Needless to say Lovy I admire the direction, the attitude to dare and be different and the style… I mean if you look at Kanye, he has changed his style completely (R&B now) and we are okay with that, we are consuming that 808 like a nonsense. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Kenyans felt that this was a hit track. I know you guys have some heat somewhere stored in that new album so I will be patient – because for me this as the first single leaves me wanting to hear more from the album.

who cares what language they are speaking. this song is great. and it’s about time they tried to break in the mainstream. keep it up guys. this is a classic!
I beg to differ.Something about this track doesn’t sit right with me. I don’t like the lyrics coz it reminds me of the letters I used to receive back in High school,not genius at all. This is definitely way different than what I expected, which is good but I don’t think this song will last on my i pod.
i love it love it,track moto

longombas are good we all know that,these are not jamas who should prove apoint to no one.no matter what language they sing the music is still great.them singing engo is to make those who dont understand,understand.good song guys. its moto than those who have been singing engo for ages in kenya
maze this song jus touched me kabisa yani i think nimepata my fav song. This is def a new style n urbody seems to be changin n i aint complainin cz i love it….Keep at it Longombas, i personally wuld buy your music.Good luck guys…
just noticed not only Longombas who r changing their direction… its many artists.. to be specific I think at thye moment most of East Afrian artists are starting to redefining urban music… its a blend of zouk and r&b which I think its great…. that EA will have its own style lyk Naijas have! Very good song
If you’re a music industry critic, you know how hard it is to simply let yourself enjoy a song.
This is because you tend to split hairs in your head analysing how the kick is sounding, if the piano licks aren’t too loud etc. On this one, I pretended to be a kawaida locals-diehard who’d just been handed the new longombaz single – Queen.
It starts like a Chris Brown song, with the live guitar strumming which gives the intro a truly western feel. At this point, you almost can’t believe its a “kenyan” song starting. Enter the beat, which can be described as a “pointee” of zouk and R&B on the verse. {Beatless intros are great in building anticipation because you can never guess how the beat will change the character of a song. A perfect example is T-Pain/Akon’s “I can’t wait”. The song starts with Piano chordwork only…when the beat drops, it’s not what you expected..but you still like it. Same to Queen, the beat that drops turns out to be a nice drum-sequence that complements the rest of the instrumentation fairly well.}
Of course you could tell an african by how he sings in english and lovi is no exception. Still, welcome to the courts where 2face, PSquare and other african cats have played and won. If a song is good enough, fans are able to overlook certain things.
Vocal arrangements are great, back-up harmonies nicely mixed with stereo effects on verse two and later on as well. Longombaz are tapping into the new phenomenon in R&B Music Production where less is more. Simple beat, Bass, LiveGuitar, Strings and Vocals and you’re good to go.
With proper marketing and promotion, this song’s got potential to spell the return of the Longombaz to the high stakes. Its the reason why when an indie record breaks out, they say its a miracle. Why? Because the Indie artist doesn’t enjoy the humongous promotion machinery of a major record label.
If longombaz will market this song vizuri, it WILL be a hit.
gentlemanly, as much as i hate it (agreeing with you)i must say you did an okay analysis……ok ill say it, you did an impressive analysis of the joint………….but still i want to hear your work if you have any.
