Some more random music from people who came and went like the holocaust. Am kinda dissing Swahili Nation because this whole Gangsta luv stuff doesn’t sit well with me on many levels. Then again am the same person who didn’t like the overly hyped Logombaz track that I am not forced to listen to every day coz its a hit.
Many people wouldn’t remember that Swahili Nation actually comprised a group of East Africans – it was a well packaged product that came to Kenya and took the crowds by storm. That Mpenzi nakutaka song was off the chains, I think I still sing it to date. A good friend of mine who passed away years ago called James Dandu – Cool James (Mtoto Wa Dandu) was part of Swahili Nation back in the day. James passed away on August 27th 2002 (and we miss him dearly), but from those dates you can tell how far back the “real” Swahili Nation dropped hits. The group was based in Sweden which I think is where they are still currently based at.
Anyway without further due here is a track they released a while back but its been sitting in my archives – maybe some DJs can make some good use of it.

I apologize before hand, the streaming on this track is going to be a bit fuzzy but the track is good once you download… We still have issues with one of our servers and large files. So please bear with us as we slowly transition to new better platforms in the coming year.
Thanks

Gangstar Luv is a catchy, musical, well-crafted song with a very supportive and complementary Instrumental. The overall standard of excellence is high in terms of the quality of the instrumental, the vocal texture and the final master-mix. Auto-tune is there although you can’t pick it out while chewing sugar-cane. I love Gangstar Luvin.
I don’t know if there’s a video for this yet but, I can picture lots of cheers from all those that attended the Jipange Concert should Swahili Nation have performed it there. It’s a standard R&B/Crunk track that can be followed up by the best of Weezy. It’s just that the raga-rapper {I call them that} doesn’t really sound like a Jamaican, and maybe he DIDN’t want to sound like one. But, hey, if you wanna take that route, why not practice and practice and if possible get a pal from a country like Trinidad and Tobago who’ll really teach you the real weng and twang, the diction, the phrasing and attitude. Or you could buy a Mr Vegas or Devonte CD and practice with that?
Not to say that I didn’t notice everything else that was great about the song, including the maturely-crafted lyrics.
I love the song. I have just come to appreciate the fact that some cats are trying to spread their wings beyond the borders of Kenya. So unlike many peeps, I will not hate on a good track just because the Kenyans singing it are not keeping it real. Kudos Swahili Nation for this one…and i thought I heard someone say these guys are now here in the states. I think I even saw them sometime out in the DC area with Teez written on “swahili nation” (like for real…or maybe i was so drunk I was seeing my own things)
