The Kilimanjaro Music Awards took place a couple of days ago and the winner of the “Best Hip Hop Song” went to Chidi Benz, with his street anthem “Ngoma Itambae (Dar Stand Up)”. The song is not new but has been an anthem in Tanzania for a while now. The first time I heard the song, I knew it had something unique to it and showcased it on Part 11.
Chidi Benz represents that “street edgy” music and his musical catalog can attest to it, with various artists enlisting him to drop 16′s on thier songs for that street feel. He has street anthems like “King Kong”, “Chidi Benz”, and radio songs like “Bado Umenuna” Featuring Marlaw , “Naitwa Nani” with K-Lynn and many more. He’s also one of the few artists who really blend their punchlines well while switching back and forth from Swahili to English while still maintaining the song flow.

Chizi benz is fire! reminds me of my days in Mwanza when Prof jay was just In, and jay Mo was mob techniques kweli! Thats a second home for me and apart from Chizi’s voice and lyrical ability i think his rise has pretty much jumped Bongo flava!
