Last time these two artists were on a track is when they collaborated on a remix for Indiginas (Binti remix). This is some new heat that comes on the debut of the whole Piga Picha crew into the Bay Area this weekend over the Labor day festivities.
Am going to be real here for a minute, I don’t know Vintiqueezy but ive voiced my opinions about his music in the past all through this blog – more importantly I just find his name hard to pronounce or accentuate – however I think he is an enterprising young guy, he has a clothing line now (Ndovu Clothing) and I also understand he is into graphix and stuff so essentially he is probably going to make a few mistakes here and there but eventually will shine if he stays consistent. Many of these cats work so hard but very few of them know what it takes to build a brand – this is one such guy who I feel is slightly on the edge of building a brand and being a brand. his flashy yellow or pink shades and the sagging Dux probably help you describe him faster than any Kenyan artists I know. But put that aside – V has a small bright future if he stays consistent… (I don’t know about that Ndovu Clothing though homie lol…. )
Second is Indiginas, I love this cat coz he is just too humble, besides him being a close friend, I just love the fact that we can meet up and talk about life while enjoying a beer. However I think on a more personal note (sorry if I offend anyone in his camp). I think Idiginas needs to change the direction of his music. Thats just my personal opinion. I think there comes a time in an artists life where you grow up and you gotta change the direction of your music. I know JP (also known as Indiginas) has been in the game for a while, since Kenya days. But I think the direction needs to change – Jay Z is not talking about guns no more because he doesn’t own any – he has people who can shoot for him instead. I think artists forget that they grow older and that they need to grow older in their music with their peers. If I was an Indiginas fan 7 years ago, I cant possibly like the same things I did 7years ago. The music has to progress and change.
This song is okay.. Well its just okay.. But I personally can’t relate to it. I know JP will kill me but its just the truth. anyway let me get some more feedback from pals here…

i agree with you Leo on this one…Indigi is still on his Ogopa Djs 2001 flow…ni ukweli as an artist it gets 2 a point where creatively,u decide 2 go in another direction so as 2 grow n branch out musically…however, there are some artists who r like “if it aint broken, why fix it”…if Indigi has no desire 2 change his style n the fans keep supporting him n telling him that his joints r banging, basi expect the same kinda music from him 4 a long time
as 4 Vinti…am a big fan…i downloaded this song via my phone just 2 hear his flow…i always compliment him on his lyrical abilities n he does the same whenever he hears any of my tracks that he likes…am glad he is branching out n doing collabos with other artists outside the “Piga Picha Crew” juu wakishikana na hiyo squodi-ni obvious watatoa hit…BIG UP Sasabasi…na uendelee ku “Stay down 2 earth kaa trou”…nice 1 mzeeiya…
as 4 the track…Casanova will be bumping in clubs n mixtapes hadi next year…why lie…whether its a banger amma iko sawa 2…itakuwa played over n over…wazi wathii
Funny thing this post has been bitter sweet – because how do you criticize your friends music? How do you tell your boy that you think his music is headed the wrong way (in your opinion).
I like one thing you said – “fans keep supporting and telling you, your joints are banging, basi expect the same thing”
This is the very statement I told Indigi after I posted this song. GROUP THINK is a disease, if you hang out with a crew of 20 guys who keep telling you how dope you are – I always say its time to change your crew. If you have friends in that posse who tell you that you aint that dope – keep those friends for life – coz they always will elevate where you are.
@ 2k – “Ogopa Djs 2001 flow”…nice one. As you say “if it ain’t broke, why fix it”. Truth is to change direction, in my opinion, one needs to reference a body of work and when that is compared to any subsequent work thereafter, you can be able to discern whether there was a change in theme, style etc. I have never released an album unfortunately, but I believe that luck is on my side this time and I’ll get one done pretty soon. I don’t do hip-hop per say, mine is the style I started out with – with a few subtle changes of course – but still the same. For you to be able to pinpoint the flow is a good thing for me actually. it shows that if I was to probably do a collabo on another song with someone else, someone can actually pick out indiginas out of the whole mix. With that said, not everything I do will be liked by everyone, that I’m aware of so it not like I’m naive or anything. I just do me the way other people do themselves, its that simple. I picked Vinty for precisely the same reasons you pointed out, the dude’s got talent and I felt it would be good to put him out there.
@ Leo – group think does exist I don’t disagree, but honestly the feedback I have received thus far is quite positive. There are those who like it and there are those who don’t. One can’t have hits all the time, even the big guys the jayz’s namelesses jua cali’s et al. I take all feedback from songs and try to funnel them into the next projects. That’s why even in stato, there are those guys who will conform their music to be radio friendly cause they need airplay, others will choose to stay away from that and let the music be an expression of who they are and what they feel. I choose both in a sense – the degree of success is relative to how you want to look at it. Don’t get me wrong, constructive criticism is always welcome.
wazi wazi Indigi…1st of all, lemme applaud u 4 taking the time 2 stop by n express ur feelings on getmziki…an artist accepting n welcoming creative n constructive criticism is always a commendable thing…actually i’ve been a fan of yours since days of MOU with Mr.Lenny…n the 2001 Ogopa Djs Flow wasnt meant as a blatant diss…its just that as a BIG fan of Indidgi,i felt that in 2009 i’d like 2 hear u spit with a different flow…si unaelewa…trust me,u r at a point now in ur career where whuteva you do is goin 2 be received positively…lakini mi kama die-hard fan of that generation of artists who came up at the same time u did(aka Mr.Lenny,Pilipili etc),ningependa kusiskia vingine…but anyway,am just 1 fan…i just love music 2 much n would like 2 see it grow…other than that Vinti is always on point n u guys collaboz r always bumpin…mr Sasabasi ako na future bright sana…n @Leo,give Ndovu Clothing a chance…labda its the next big thing…amma???
but like u said Indigi…the 1 thing that i and every1 can n MUST respect is that you are doing you…thats the bottom line…keep doing you…everything else will follow…good luck with the album…RESPECT jo
nashukuru sana 2k. I jua the Ogopa djs 2001 flow wasn’t a diss Lol! was just wekaing it there for emphasis. Lakini I hear what you are saying, kila saa nikitengeneza I try to see what else I can do. Some stuff you put out to gauge reaction; you pata hit and misses now and again but it saidias to jua what guys feel and secondly your potential audience ama if one feels they need to try and kamata aka different segment. The only drawback is one can over analyze all that data to the detriment of doing the music. So hii mambo naipeleka tu mdogo mdogo na macomment ka zako na za watu wengine zinasaidia kuchonga finished product. Shukran tena.
Getmziki it seems you guys approving comments 1st then posting..wacheni propaganda, atleast put that in your disclaimer.
@2K Either we under estimate Kenyans or Kenyans under estimate themselves. Like really. I honestly feel troubled sometimes when people say stuff like “support Kenyans” WTF is this charity? Personally I buy stuff because its good shit, I don’t buy Kenyan because I support Kenyan, I buy Kenyan coz its good shit. I will reserve judgement on Ndovu for now lol – I mean the kid is talented and driven no doubt about it. I just don’t think half the designs on there appeal to a guy like me http://www.ndovuclothing.com/ (some people can take that statement some cant its just reality..) I spend hours with Tom (Uhuru Clothing) talking about his company, but I never talk about his designs (ask him)… I talk about direction, branding, and markets… Anyway thats bla bla.. // While you are at it check out this Tanzanian Brand – http://www.kinaklothing.com/ (tell me what you think, and tell me if you think I would be misguided to say he has hot shit?)…
@Indiginas I respect your comments, always will. I think at some point people have to make a choice, is music a hobby or is it a business. If music is a hobby then who cares what other people think. If music is business and you hope to make something out of it – then every little opinion from industry insiders matters. Either way i deeply respect your comments – overtime I think however the justice of the strategy in your music will prevail. I will still be here usijali.
ha ha ha ha approving comments then posting.. how would that even work?
@Leo…am feeling u 100%…we are 2gether on this 1…but dont get me wrong…no one should get a free pass…hakuna charity…if something sucks,it sucks…right???you gotsta put in work 2 get respect…i agree with u on all apects…all i’m saying is that i thought u wrote off NdovuClothing way 2 early…i mean, isnt the label less than a year old???that would b like when GetMziki started n 3 months later s’one said the site sucks…only 2 fast forward years later n its the hottest place on the web 4 music(shameless plug)…thats all…Uhuru Clothing as well as Kinaclothing(exquisite stuff,by the way)…hell, even the Rocawears n PhatFarms didnt become hot commodities @ 1 or 2 years old…i just think it takes time 2 see where it goes…along the way,the company develops or fails…but thats just me…but as u said,i will also reserve judgement n wait n see how Ndovu does…we should check back after 3 years or so n pick up this convo where we left off…amma???
n 2 all enterprising Kenyans,Tanzanians,Ugandans,hell Africans,no…every1 in the world…if u have a dream of any kind…(in this case,business)…n u have the drive,talent,effort n energy…GO FOR IT…BETTER 2 TRY N FAIL THAN NOT 2 TRY AT ALL…REAL TALK
(TRUE STORY)…they told me i dont look like someone who can rap…that it was a joke…n 2 years later am the Number 1 Unsigned Kenyan Rap,Afro Beat n Hip-Hop artist on myspace…SO GO HARD OR GO HOME
Leo. One voice.. does not speak for ALL.
So why not create a rating system.
Fanaka… Different forums for different websites cater to polling systems or rating systems.. evidently we don’t do that here because we would like to think that there is a method to our madness. Besides if we solely depended on polls and stats then where is the FUN in that
Duly noted though – everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I am just exercising my right… my freedom.. have you seen how PRESS in Africa has changed over the last 15years. There were days you couldn’t even mention MOI..lol.. Anyway enough said about this post..
ngoma tyt sasabasi…..
