Mya Baganda – Say No (***GetMziki Exclusive)

Mya Buganda (in the middle of the pic) is a member of the group Blu 3 (Black Ladies from Uganda 3) that also features Jackie Chandiru and Lillian Mbabazi. The ladies have all been pursuing solo carriers as can be seen by Jackie Chandiru current hits Gold Digger and Overdose that are packing dance floors across E.Africa. I have been saying this for a while but Ugandan music is on the rise as far as churning out hits, that are crossing over worldwide.

“Say No” is Mya’s official first single from her debut album that will be released this year. I’m not really so sure the angle her management team is rocking by picking the name Mya, but time will tell on the name choice. M. Baganda is staying in line with what her fans are used to in terms of her brand of music. She’s also definitely on her way to capture new listeners unfamiliar with her style, sound and accent.
For now rock to “Say No”

P-Unit Feat Sauti Sol – Gentleman

In the current music industry, collabos are key to penetrating some markets and different fan bases. However some collabos seemed forced and it’s not too many collabos that breathe freshness. One of the collabos that I’ve been riding to that breathe’s freshness is “Gentleman” by P-unit Feat Sauti Sol. I can honestly say the pairing on this track works perfectly. P-Unit exhibits an impressively smooth and lyrical flow and delivery, which perfectly merges with the beat. Production on the track was done by producer extradionare Robert Kimanzi aka R Kay who has produced tons of hits for East African Artists.

The first time I heard the track, I knew that “Nipate baby kwenye bar, uliza shorty what u drinking” will be a common line that most guys will soon be using. With this track, P-Unit proves that they can shift gears from working solo to collabos but still maintain a feeling of ownership throughout any project.

Enjoy!!!

Prezzo Feat Ulopa – 4Sho, 4Shizzy

We’ve had this track for a while, but now just getting to post it. I got an email from a Dj asking for the track and realised we hadn’t really posted “4Sho, 4Shizzy”.

I really do not have a personal opinion of the track. I’ve listened to it and I don’t really love or hate it. If you’re looking for Prezoo to hit you up with some crazy punchlines, then you’ll still be waiting. However if you wanna bump to some music while heading to the clubs, then “4Sho, 4Shizzy” can easily find itself on your play list.

All said and done, Prezzo is an entertainer that has the strength to take a break from the music industry, come back and still make people intrested in his music. You have to respect that!!!

Syd Feat Wyre – Guradian Angel

We have featured Syd on getmziki with clande and Uta do. Here is how Syd descried the track when he sent it to us

“My latest single after the song Clande (Mandugu Digital) ….It is a song that is dedicated to all the Single mothers that struggle and sacrifice to give their children the best that they can. From the Ogopa Djs studios, the song features Wyre the Lovechild”

Octopizzo – On Top

I’m in that music zone where I’m really into tracks that showcase lyrical ability and clever wordplay. For one reason or another, I’m not really felling most of the new music coming out. Everyone once in a while for one reason or another, I get into this zone of just bumpin to straight lyrical artists and none of that club music.

In January this year we posted the track “Kibera World Cup” from Octopizzo and named him as one of the artists to watch in 2011. The Getmziki crew is always out there looking for artists on the rise and grinding to perfect their craft. It just reminds me of one of the artists mixtapes I’ve been listening to lately where he says in todays music world you have to be on a “griming” mode. This is where your grinding and timing are consistent. We’ve also been toiling with the idea of doing a “top 10 artist to watch feature” but with all that we have going on, the feature has been pending.

This track is not for everyone out there. If you are into club tracks with the same 100-120BPM dance tracks, then skip the post. However if you are into lyrical artists with great wordplay and punchlines, feast on this one. The first 16′s just did it for me.

“Politicians wanadhani wakibuy Subaru, watawacha Legacy,
Nawengine wako juu ya madawa nikama wamekalia pharmacy,
Wakati mnakunywa chang’aa hao wanakunywa Hennessey”

Bracket Feat WizKid – Girl (GetMziki Exclusive*****)

Bracket just released their new album “Cupid Stories” last week. I got to sample the whole album and I was not really impressed. Most of the sounds and song themes lean towards recycled “Yori Yori” and “No time” beats. I’m sure we will have a couple of hit records on the album, since the die hard Bracket fans will be bumping to thier music. However, the musical growth of the group is not really evident on this album.

The album features MI, 2face, WizKid, Banky W and Flavour (of the Ashawo fame, which is currently the most over played song in African parties). I decided to showcase “Girl” which features WizKid, since it’s the current single Bracket is pushing and also to introduce WizKid to the music enthusiastics out there. Why lie, having Wizkid on the track made it sound way better than the other collabos on the album.

Enjoy!!!!

Jackie Chandiru – Overdose and Gold Digger

I’ve receieved a couple of emails from various djs requesting Ugandan music, which is a rarity, since most requests are for Kenya, Tanzania or Naija music. Maybe some of the djs are gearing up for the celebrations for Uganda’s Independence Day in October. Either way, I decided to showcase some music from Jackie who is currently ruling the airwaves in Uganda.

Jackie Chandiru a.k.a Jackie is one of Uganda’s leading female R’n’B artists and vocalists. Jackie kicked off her musical career in 2004 after she emerged as one of the winners for the Coca Cola Pop stars. This led to formation of the Blu 3 which became one of the leading girl groups in Africa. In 2010 Blu 3 went on leave thus leading to the girls working on solo projects.(Courtesty Reverbnation)

Jackie has been churing out hits as a solo artist and she’s one of the females who’s ruling dancefloors in East Africa. You’ve most likely bumped to her music either on the radio or at parties but either way, her music is slowly but surely catching on to the rest of Africa. We’ve had all this tracks since late last year and I’ll catch some flack especially from my pal Dan Mixa if I tag them as exclusives since he’s been consistently playing this tracks on his sets from last year.

For all the djs out there requesting for some Ugandan music, some two new additions on your Serato for the next party. For everyone out there, enjoy and overdose on great Ugandan Music from Lugbara. Enjoy!!!!

Rabbit – Tembea (Staki Kukuona)

We have featured Rabbit with “Dodoma” and “Jam Nakam” and he’s slowly proving that he can make good records. There is really something about the track, that got me to showcase the song. I haven’t really placed my finger if it’s the great word play or the chorus. However, the lines that did it for me were:

Tuseme tu ukweli relationship haiwezi
Wewe + mimi = madeni
So ntakuacha kwa sasa nikatafute peni
Ukiinsist tu sana, mami tembea na na staki kukuona

Either way, the track has been getting constant spins on the airwaves and worthy mentioning on GetMziki. The best part about Rabbit, is that he musically does what he wants; and with that, someone’s going to feel it.

P-Square – Forever (****GetMziki Exclusive)

P-Square just released a couple of singles a few weeks ago in preparation for their new album. In the current music market, artists release a couple of singles to really see what fans out there cling to and then release the video to go along with the chosen single. I hav been listening to the new singles and the “forever” track has been one of the tracks that I have been listening to on a regular basis.

P-Square are riding on the strength of giving the fans what they enjoy most. The catchy chorus and quality production create the sound many have come to expect from P-Square.You cannot really fail to see that this amazing duo is here to stay and “Forever” is one of those tracks that people wil be bumping to heavy in the next couple of months.

Enjoy!!!!!

Jaffarai Feat. Wyre – Mcharuko (GetMziki Exclusive******)

This track just came out last week and It’s been on constant rotation on my weekly playlist alongside some new Meek Mill, P-Square and some “Bonoko” remixes. Funny thing is we just showcased another track from Jaffarai a few weeks ago but who’s really complaining.

On this latest track, Kenya’s Wyre the “Love Child” jumps on Jaffarai’s latest track “Mcharuko” for an awesome collabo. I don’t really know what “Mcharuko” means but all I know is that the track deserves a feature. I’ll let the track breathe on it’s own. Jaffarai is definitely dong his thing and proving to everyone out there that he’s on his way to becoming one of the most valuable players in Bongo music.!!!!!

Cartel – Swagga (GetMziki Quick Hits)

We got this track a couple of months ago and just now posting it on GetMziki Quick Hits. Cartel has been featured on GetMziki before so we will just jump on the track. Cartel is one of the few artists who has completely embraced the internet, as a means of promoting his music and new releases. He’s always going strong with constant updates on both his Facebook and Twitter pages. Here is what he said about the Swagga track on his Twitter page

“latest Release yawa.. its called the kisumu swagga… omera utawesa kweliiiiiii’

Jaffarai Ft Lady Jay Dee – Sio Kweli (GetMziki Exclusive)

Once in a while you get to listen to artists who are out there grinding hard and churning out hits and sometimes hits, but still giving the fans that out of the box good music. One of those artists is Jaffarai from Tanzania who is proving to the fans and other music lovers out there that he’s here to stay.

Currently signed to “Fish Crab Entertainment”, Jaffarai got a future hit single with ‘Sio kweli”. In house producer Lamar cooks up an infectious beat and brings in Lady Jay Dee to drop some “16′s” and sing on the hook, making this song a banger. For all the music producers and artists out there who frequent the site, take a cue and learn from Jaffari and Lamar on how they introduce the track and tag the intro part of the song. I bet Lamar has seen how the super producers from Bangladesh, Just Blaze, Tha Business and Jazze Pha tag and introduce their songs. With so many producers and artists out there its necessary to sometimes let the listeners “aware” on who’s on the track.

Enjoy!!!!!

As we try and go through all the music we have been getting, some of the tracks will be showcased as quick posts. The first one is from Miggy who has been featured here before with “Best Dj” and “Ligi Kubwa”.

According to Miggy, the track Is “about how am upset about some crazy things people can decide to do. Its a war against such people”. The track was produced by Gylloh of G-Hood Ent.

The beat and subject matter are definitely positives in the song. I wanna know what people think of the track!!!

MwanaFa – Unanijua Unanisikia(GetMziki Exclusive)

Mwana FA also known as Binamu is no stranger to the GetMziki folk and has been a consistent artist in Tanzania hip hop circles. If u have been following his musical journey, then you know that some of his hits including collabos that still rock clubs include ‘Alikufa kwa Ngoma’, ‘Naongea na Wewe’ ‘Mabinti’, ‘Bado Nipo Nipo, ‘Usije Mjini’, ‘Msiache Kuongea’, ‘Unanitega’, ‘Dakika Moja’ and ‘Habari Ndio Hiyo’.

On this new track produced by Hermy B At B’Hits studio, MwanaFa is literally asking people whether they “know him or hear him”. Its one of the tracks that u really gotta listen carefully while digesting the lyrics and punchlines. The video also incorporates the four pillars of hip hop namely MCing, DJing, break dancing and graffiti writing in a unique way.

Great work MwanaFa and Hermy B!!!!!

Ochu – Umechakachua (Artist on the Grind – Getmziki Exclusive **)

It’s one of those times where we get people familiar with an artist on the grind. Ochu is an upcoming Tanzanian artist who is the son of legendary singer/musician Eddy Sheggy. Currently signed to Seductive records, he is in the studio completing his debut album. This is the first official single and video for his song “Umechakachua”. Apparently “chakachua” means everything going wrong.

With tracks like this Ochu is on the right path for greater things. This is one of those tracks that speak for themsleves. I wanna see how his record company is planning on marketing him. Either way, enjoy this track!!!!

Marya Feat Avril – Chokoza

We here at GetMziki have featured Marya before with Hey Baby and Avril with Mama . Both of them have voices and can really sing and coupled with thier beauty, they really form the ultimate collabo pair. On the flip side, the pairing of the duo is a recepie for people to hate and look for fault when there is none.

Now the beat sounds like a “diwali riddim” rip off, but Ogopa Djs put a twist to the beat to make it refreshing and unique in its own way. Now I know some people will compare this track to “Love is wicked” by Brick and Lace but you cannot really blame them. The similarities are just too obvious. The chorus on the song is  catchy and even though the lyrics on the track are sometimes confusing (on the first chorus, they talk about accepting Tequila shots from guys then running off but then on verse 2 they say they are independent women who have their own cash to support themselves-What Is What?????) “Chokoza” shows the maturity and growth of the duo.

I wanna know what people out there think of the track. I believe its worth getting some spins here at GetMziki. Enjoy!!!!!

Skool Fizz ft 2K and Daluta – Dunia Ya Leo

We have featured Skool Fizz before with Huku Majuu and they recently released this single featuring “Daluta”
and 2K. Currently based in the US, they are slowly but surely filling the void that other artists haven’t done so by releasing music on a consistent basis.

Here is an exceprt from Leo when he posted the “Huku Majuu” track. “I’ve been trying to tell guys that the whole Kenyan-American music scene is on the up rise. There are is a new style, a new genre in the making, and if Ogopa, Blu Zebra, Backstage, Homeboyz, Blackstar, Red Room, Samawati, Ulopa and any other Kenyan production house don’t recognize it – in a few months if not years you will be suprised that no one will be listening to Kenyan Music from Kenya in the US (because this genre will satisfy all Kenyans living in the US, unless there is some cross pollination in future)”.

“Dunia ya Leo” sows the growth and maturity of Skool Fizz, 2K and Daluta. The tracks shows they can write and create good music. I really wanna see them start hitting various cities across the US and start branding their name and music. Kudos to them for still not letting go of the music bug
