Q-Bloods – I’m a warrior ft Chibildo

This is a new group from Nakuru, mainly high school kids,  their produce is a guy called mtu panya, also out of Nakuru. I met them a few months ago when sir prestige was visiting. Not much i can say except they got a bright future ahead of them. Track is okay, potential is greater. Q-bloods – I am a warrior by getmziki

Jeraw – Live it up

I’m not one to make predictions about music, but if i can be allowed i would predict jeraw is going to be the biggest music phenomenons in Kenya 2012. reason for this is because this guy is the true triple threat writer, producer and rapper. He’s flow is sick moving between english and swahili seamlessly and subject matter is tight, im not saying this guys sings some serious(boring) topics, more like he talks about daily life in a n interesting way.

I posted  Jeraws first song Tujinice, here which didn’t get much comments but from the logs i can see it was heavily downloaded and just recently started getting some airplay. Live it up actually has been n radio.

DJ EDU’ s THROW BACK DNA MIX by Deejay Edu

Atumpan – The Thing ft Stone

Atumpan, is a a Ghanaian HipLife artist, before hearing this song i had never really heard of him.  I odnt think i need to write much about this but let it speak for itself, i think its about to be on heavy rotation if its not already on heavy rotation. Its got everything Africans like,  a killer hook and melody to go with it someting that Nigerians seem to have perfected.

Jeraw- Tujinice

Jeraw – mark that name, because i think this guy got it, he seems to have figured out the perfect balance of flow, language and the beats to match he’s style. What do you all think ?

K-Letta – Kata

If you watch TV enough, you know K-letta is the ‘voice’ of Bankika – KCB’s youth banking solution. That alone is a big statement that a local bank is using Hiphop expression to target the youth Market. K-letta has been in the game for a minute, if im not wrong he started off with Calif records then had a stint in the U.K. then returned to Kenya picking right up form where he left.

The following is a new joint from K-letta, listen and give feedback.

J Martins Feat Cabo Snoop – Good Time

This is a new track just in from our Nigerian connects – i think this gonna be a HUGE banger riding on the whole house/dance phenomenon that is sweeping the continent right now.

Play/Download it below.

Zinja Hlungwani – N’wagezani My Love

i figured i would post this track since – this here, track has been somewhat of an internet sensation spawning a whole new genre of music, basically its traditional Shangaan music from SA but with a electro twist to it.

Hopiho – Nostalagie

Since i don’t speak French, i cant reallly talk about the content of this track, but there is alot of name dropping going on Eto, i guess
naming all the Cameroonian stars or something. But Beyond that Hopio – or Pascal is Cameroonian artiste based out of Nairobi trying to practice he’s craft in Nairobi. Beyond that i will be honest and say there is noting groundbreaking about this track more like a spin or bin it.

Alhamdulillah – Lulu **Exclusive**

This track just landed in my  inbox, and i’m not even hesitating to post it, give it a listen there is something of a freshness to it.I  met Lulu before since he works in a studio on the 2nd floor. The first tracks i had from him were interesting but missing something – but i guess the kid been perfecting he’s craft and this track might just be a big hit.

Boddhi Satva – Punch Koko

Boddhi Satva is a house music producer from Central African Republic who we have featured here before. He has made a name for himself bring African music to dance floors all over Europe and North America. Not much i can write except check out the music – music and download link below:

Cabo Snoop – Windeck

What can i say about Cabo Snoop –  just phenomenal. Windeck dropped sometime last year and ended up winning an award at the MAMA’s  not only that there is a million remixes circulating taking the whole Kuduro phenomenon worldwide. Last i heard Fat Joe just released a remix of  Windeck. I saw Madtraxx perform Windeck at some show at Carnivore though i don’t think he did a great job of it.

Unfortunately earlier this year the producer – the Big guy you see in the video IVM passed away in a road accident in which Cabo survived- our condolences.

Octopizzo – Kibera World Cup

2011 is here and it’s going to go pretty fast. We’ve been working on too many things over the last few year for us not to release them this year so sit tight (WE PROMISE) this year should be different. As different as this track we want to kick off the new year with.

OCTOPIZZO: Facebook – [Octopizzo Facebook Page]

One of the crop of up and coming rappers in Nairobi whom not too many people know about. Most people know about the Abbas, Noninis, Kanja and so forth. Actually at this point the Nonini’s can be considered Old School rappers. This new crop of rappers include Octopizzo, G-Kon and a few other cats who would take this whole post to list down. (Rest assured their music has been received and will be posted shortly).

The track we have posted is not necessarily the best but we think it gives you the feeling of the energy. If you meet Octopizzo in town or you see him walking. It almost as though there is a beat in his head that he is walking to. Thats the kind of energy the youth has and exudes. This track was delivered to our Kenya offices as a sneak preview to what he has in store for 2011, we were also privy to an exclusive photo shoot while they were shooting the music video.

This is one of the artists we believe the industry needs to watch in 2011- Give Kibera a listen.

Wally B – Karibu kenya

I don’t know much about Wally B, personally – but i met he’s producer Robert, who working on a couple of interesting projects.  I am being a little lazy so will just post hes bio below.

Artist & Model Walter Bruce Bonga also known as Wally B (pronounced Wo-lee- bee)

What type of music?

Wally B’s music is classified as broadly Hiphop. He believes his style is a sub- genre of Hiphop as it blends several different music genres which inspire him until this day. Some of the genres include Neo-Soul, Jazz, Reggae, DanceHall, and Taarab.

When did he start?

Wally first started recording music in 1999 straight on to audiotapes. In 2004 he dropped his first mixtape that rocked Komarock 3B and got him his first real

recognition. He then released a song in 2005, named D.I.D and then collaborated with an artist named Cyclone with whom they released a single named Paper under the group moniker Kalamity Militia. Paper got a lot of love from Y FM now known as Hot96.

They’re next releases were not to be, after a video director who they had contracted to produce a music video, flew out of the country with all their material and not a word to his clients. The story is told in his song Just Begun feat Dyverse off of his debut album B=(Mcs)2.

Where is he from?

Wally B was born and raised in Kariobangi-South and spent most of his early childhood there and this is where he first fell in love with Hiphop.

Ace Nells – Fofinha

I have been listening to Mozambique music for a while now. Personally i think Mozambique is probably the most slept on music country in Africa – there is mad talent in that country but i think whats sets it apart is the combination of languages – most songs have combination of English,Portuguese,Makuwa and even swahili which gives the music a wide reach.

Like most African artists there isn’t much known about Nelson Nhachungue – Ace Nells but i have been listening to this song over and over on my ipod and thought i should give it a spin on GetMziki.

Les Jumo Selesao – Zoomer

2550714841_1

For a while there i thought the whole coupe decale phenomenon was dying slowly, or being taken over by some new variations of it – that was until this kids came along and decided to step it up a notch with this joint. check out the video below and download at the bottom:

Lizha James ft Loyiso – Atacar

Lizha James  is one of the hottest female singers in Africa right now.  She has managed to create a sound that combines both Mozambican and South African sounds and language, together with solid presentation. I like the fact that she does a lot of collaborations with Anglo speaking musicians[her previous collaboration was with Mandoza] which makes here music more accessible to none Lusophone speakers.

Barbara Kanam – Djarabi

bg

Barbara Kanam has all the element of african super stardom the combination of good looks, diverse repertoire and good vocals -  I would describe her as a young combination of Tshala Muana and Mbilia Bel. Her album entitled Karibu  came out this year and is one of the best complete albums i have listened to in a long time.

Sister FA – Milyamba

SisterFa_Streifen_RZ.indd

I was in Maui last week – Maui is far its like one of the last places to celebrate new year normally
so i’m in this airport shuttle and some guy enters and right away i new he was African. He had a huge drum with him which took one of the rows of that shuttle. Anyway we got talking and i found out he was from Senegal and was there as musician doing performances all over the Island – Oh and the van driver was an Egyptian – how did 3 Africans end up on this remote island so far from Africa ?

One thing you got to give to Senegalese is that they are strong on culture, they feed off their culture the way Kenyans feed off Athletics and they have a deep bench of talent -  you can’t go to any major city in the US or the world without finding some Senegalese music group art group or somebody just selling curious and artifacts.

Anyway that conversation got me thinking about this post which i was working on earlier but did not have a story to go with it – i know people like background stories but in a perfect world i would rather just post a song and let it speak for itself.

Wale – My Sweetie

Olubowale Victor Folarin – Wale is easily one of the best new rappers out there – We always knew Wales roots were in Africa but most of the time he reps DC – because that is where he was born and we have no problem with that. But as soon has he dropped this tune – my sweetie – the remix of an African classic we moved him over to the Get Mziki column because we know this is going to be a big tune at African parties – if you love HipHop you need to get familiar with Wale.
