Tip Top – Tunapanda (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
This weekend I was hanging out with some friends and everyone kept bitching and moaning about the slow updates on Getmziki. My excuse was that – well, there isnt any good material to post anymore lol (of course I am lying) but the reality is its just been difficult to find time to go through all the music. Also one of our team members moved to Kenya to expand GetMziki in East Africa so this has made it slightly difficult to manage a huge site with just 3 or so contributors.
But we promise to change the momentum pretty soon.
To start things off I want to drop this Bongo Flava track from Tip Top Connection titled Bado Tunapanda. The group which is managed by Hamis Taletale aka Babu Tale seems to be a collaboration of some big Tanzanian heavy weights some of whom include Cassim, Keisha, Tunda Man, Desso and Madee. Unfortunately from the entire group I have only heard and featured worked from Cassim (featured asKassim on our blog – Usiende Kwa Mganga).
This track is not necessarily new its about 2 months old but I suspect it will be a huge banger in East Africa in the next few months. It is currently on EATV as one of the top 8 tracks on their charts and I can easily see it move up the charts this week. I spoke to a few of my TZ connex and I hear its heavy in the streets. Watch the video to get a sense of all the artists involved with this successful hit. The production is on point the singing is on point (especially the chic she has such a powerful voice, we need some new female voice in Tanzania am sorta bored of the Lady Jay Dee and Ray C’s)

Prof Jay Feat Chidi Benz – Msilie
Its time we took it back to the streets. This time we take it to Tanzania with a street anthem from Prof Jay called “Msilie”. The new single featuring Bongo heavy weight Chidi Benz was produced by Lamar at Fishcrab records. For those who are into production, listen to the intro where it draws you in instantly and the various change up’s in the beat. Hot!!!!
Prof Jay who is currently touring the US, has been featured before on GetMziki and his music catalog is so huge to really name all the classics he has. He’s a pioneer in the Bongo Music scene and many artists look up to him as a guide of making it in the music industry. Just to vent a little bit, I get so mad when promoters bring African based artists for tours in the US and always insist on “promoting” thier shows by using one or two of thier current songs and videos as the “template” of the artist’s music, which really blinds the average consumer into thinking that the artists only have those songs in thier music catalog. I’ve seen it so many times on Facebook and promoters websites and it’s a trend that is really hurting the artists, while in fact most of the artists have tons of hit songs on thier belt.
If you really follow Bongo music, you already know the weight Prof. Jay holds in Tanzania. The awards he has won are also just to many to mention but include the 2004 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Hip Hop Album “Mapinduzi Halisi”, the 2006 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Song “Nikusaidiaje”, the 2007 Kisima Music Awards for Best Ugandan Song “Sivyo Ndiviyo” with Chameleone, the 2009 Tanzania Music Awards for Best Songwriter and many more.
This track is an anthem in the streets and although its not your typical “club track” it’s a great record. For all the people out there who still like “non radio” station playlist songs and like that street edgy music, enjoy this one. Listen to the lyrics on this song to really appreciate the track.
Enjoy!!!

Abby Skillz Feat Alinda – Dunia (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Tanzania is on the verge of one of the biggest elections in its history. In my little knowledge of the Tanzanian Government structure, I believe since its independence Tanzania has had only one political party in power – CCM. For the first time in the history of the country and the community as a whole – the mass majority of the people are dissatisfied with the Governance CCM has put in place since president Jakaya Kikwete took office.
Essentially over the last 5 to 10 years Tanzanias economy has dwindled down as the people in power continue to take care of their own interests. Its as if TZ picked a page out of the Kenyan corruption notebook and perfected it. A few years ago (1999) there was an airport scandal of monumental heights. The Tanzanian Airports Authority bought a radar from BAE systems for 46Million Dollars. I mean this radar can see planes landing in South Africa thats how powerful it is, all with Tax payers money with other arrears that can’t seem to be tracked at this point. There has been an inquisition since then with no particular resolution to that effect(typical of East African countries). Remind me of the passport or ID equipment scandal Kenya had a while back too… Makes me wonder kwani there is not Government comptroller who checks to see whats being purchased and why? Or is he in on most of the things too? Sometimes I wish we could replicate that KAGAME guy… (coincidentally did you know that Rwanda has the most women in Government that any African country!! talk about equal opportunity)
Anyway I digress..
Today as I drop this Abby Skillz track I can’t help but listen to the words and hope and pray Tanzanians will make the right decisions on the polls this year. Abby breaks down region by region how politics and people just get power and go crazy. I think also taking into consideration today Kenya goes to the polls to vote YES or NO on the Draft Constitution – there has never been a more appropriate song.
Dunia ni Tambara bovu – The world is a messed up piece of cloth!!

Shaa – Shoga (**GetMziki Artist Spotlight)
We have tons of tracks from Shaa and have had discussions among ourselves about how great her songs are and the way she has a bright future in Bongo music. With everything else we try to accomplish, we sadly enough haven’t really posted any tracks from her until now.
Sarah Kaisi, now commonly known as Shaa, is a 24 year old talented Tanzanian, who grew up in a musical family with her debut album being in early 2004 with the group “Wakilisha” of the East Africa Coca Cola Pop stars. The album had the hit single “Hoi” but after a while she left the group and went to Washington DC to further her studies. In October 2008, she landed herself a major record deal with Tanzania’s MJ Records and recorded her first solo album “Zamu Yangu” which means “It’s my turn”, since everybody in her former group had released albums apart from her.
Her music is a fusion of Zouk, Reggae and Bongo Flava . She was last year nominated for the the Best Newcomer of The Year category at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) and was also just recently signed to Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment – the African continent’s first Pan African 360 Music & Entertainment Company and Record Label.
Her past hit singles include “Pambazuka” with AY, “Mtimanyongo” with Langa and “Mafundi”. The Song “Shoga” has slowly but surely been climbing the charts in most bongo radio station countdowns and with this track, she definitely cements her place in Bongo music for the long haul. Make sure to also check out the video for the beautiful backgrounds and “African Authenticity”. If this is the first time you’re hearing about Shaa, be ready to hear tons of her amazing work in the next coming years. Enjoy!!!

Alicom feat KGT – Am in Luv (GetMziki Quick Hits **)
We’ve had this feature on GetMziki for years but we never really took advantage of it. Quick hits is a feature we started to allow us the ability to post songs from artists we really didnt have any information on and features that we didnt really have a quick good opinion on.
Over the last few weeks we have recieved so much music that its probably more viable now than it was a year ago. This little notice should serve as a disclaimer and a notice for the next few posts that we will update without too much commentary and or opinion on the songs.
To start the QUICK HITS feature – lets drop this brand new Alicom feat KGT. Alicom is a Bongo Flava artist popularly/famous for his Bongo track called Selina. Alicom has been singing for a long time, but the teaming up with KGT should be something interesting to watch out for. Taking into consideration KGT is the producer behind the popular Bongo flava tracks – Cinderella (Ali Kiba), Mac Muga – Nakshi Nakshi Mrembo (Ali Kiba)… its going to be a crazy summer.

Mike Tee (Mnyalu) – I love you (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I am not so sure how I feel about this new Tanzanian sound. Alvin put this together and it was great but the more I listen to this track am kinda confused with the whole Auto tune usage and the new flavored beats. The track will definitely grow on you the more you listen to it but my initial impulse was WTF. Considering I have always been an avid Mike Tee fan.
Mike Tee hails from my hometown (DODOMA) actually where my moms is from so by default I am inclined to support the cat. Mike Tee also known as Mnyalu is one of the few artists who started his career in a church choir, somehow found a way to get into Bongo Flava and he has been killing it ever since.
For now enjoy this brand new single called I love you.

Quick Rocka Feat Q-Jay – Bullet
This song is not new but has been riding strong in the streets of Tanzania for a while now. It’s one of them songs I call “street anthems”. My promise to everyone in 2010 was to introduce people to “new artists” that were slowly but surely grinding hard. All I’m gonna say is remember the name, “Quick Rocka”.
Quick Rocka a.k.a MR FAST is an upcoming young rap star from the streets of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Starting his journey at the tender age of 14, Quick Rocka now 19 has stunned many older more mature and established rappers at his school whenever he performed in various talent shows. Accompanied by Chieph, Mo’ and Dau, the boys formed a crew by the name of THE ROCKAZ. They agreed upon an identical name “ROCKA” preceded by their nicknames so as to show their personal identities and uniqueness within the group. The Rockaz released their first single ROCKAZ ANTHEM early 2009. The song was well received and performed well on the local charts and officially marked the the foursome’s arrival into the index of Tanzania’s elite rap artists. Quick Rocka was noticed by MJ Records and signed almost instantly, following an explosive radio interview that impressed the CEO of the record label. Under MJ Records, Quick Rocka is composing a solo album and his first single from that album is BULLET(Courtesy of Manorionline)
Some of his lines on the first verse summarizes who “Quick Rocka” is
“Kwenye hii game nasafisha nakomaa kisanii,
Kama Quick Rocka ndo nawika nani hanisikii, (weeee!)
Kama unaifeel track keep it real,
Play it don’t stop thats the deal,
Kama hunipendi i don’t mind just chil,
Lakini naamini one day utanifeel”
Enjoy!!!

MB Doggy – Rastaman (GetMziki Exclusive ****)
Last year (2009) around July MB Doggy’s daughter passed away from complications caused by malaria. It’s amazing when you think about how many lives have been lost from Malaria. Malaria is still a bigger problem in Africa more than AID/HIV. There are numerous movements and organizations in place to help fight malaria or educate people on how to stay protected from the Mosquitoes. A close friend was part of the “Nothing but Nets Campaign” and for years I never really thought it was impactful until one day I realized that it all has to start with trying to stay clear of the insect itself. Nothing but Nets has saved so many lives over the years along side many other celebrity endorsed initiatives.
Today as I listen to this crazy track, I cant help but reflect on MB Doggy’s loss. Losing a child is probably one of the most heart wrenching things you go through. MB Doggy has been responsible for a string of hits the biggest being Latifa, I remember when he came out I was like yo! this singing thing is going to be the next big thing in East Africa. That was like 6 years ago, now its a reality. The vocal artists tend to do better in Tanzania because their music crosses all generations. This track produced by Man-Water in Tanzania is just a feel good track – give it a listen Tanzania Bongo flava is reinventing itself yet again.

AY feat Mwana FA – Usije Mjini (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Man, I have been low key for a few weeks – sometimes life happens and you have to attend to life first and then get back to your thing. I am glad that Alvin and Dona were able to hold down the fort coz some of the other contributors including myself have just been too low key.
Anyway I’ve been getting a lot of new music from Hermy B who is an emerging Bongo Flava producer currently responsible for many of the hits coming out of the Tanzanian Studios. Actually the previous post by Alvin – Kidum feat Lady JD was produced by Hermy B.
A.Y is my personal friend and for years we’ve enjoyed a symbiotic relationship. At some point I told him I think he is changing his style too much. I felt like he was going pop with trying to be too hiphop – but often he reminds me that when he released YULE! produced by Steve Jean he was going for a different sound. I mean AY has always been reinventing the wheel and trying and testing new things in Tanzanian hiphop and for most part they always seem to work because he is still relevant in the market place.
This collabo (although I understand they did the song together and hence would like to share the song title as in AY and Mwana FA as opposed to featuring – minor details really)
This song is fiyaaah give it a listen and let us know what you think.

Diamond- Mbagala

We get tons of music from Alvin who is our main Tanzania source. I know he has come through tons of times when we either looking for bongo tracks or videos and we really appreciate all the “goodies” he sends us.
He slid the GetMziki team this single a couple of weeks ago and I have been marinating and bumping to this track for a while now. I’m always amazed at how some East African artists market their music, right from their bio, promo pics and press releases. Its like they “hide” all that info and expect people to search for it. I have goggled about “Diamond” a couple of times now and there’s not so much info about him. All I know is that the kid got heat!!!!
More Info: We are getting more info about Diamond. He is signed to Ali Kiba’s record company Sharoballo records and his first single was “Kamwambie”. Both this songs were produced by Bob Junior a singer turned producer.
I haven’t really heard any other tracks from him but if he keeps on releasing music like “Mbagala” this kid is the future of Tanzania R & B. The song is one of those “feel good tracks” that stick in your head just after one listen. On the song he talks about how he misses love based purely on romance instead of the “financial” romance type. The videos is also straight “authentic” where they showcase the streets and towns in a unique way. Check out the “garbage dump” scene in the video that truly captures the uniqueness of the track.
Enjoy this track that will soon be in your favorite top 10 tracks of 2010.

Kassim – Usiende Kwa Mganga
We originally posted this song on the GetMziki homepage, however over time we realised that the copy of the song we posted was not complete. Our apologize. However the track is so deep that we decided to do an actual post and sorta touch base on who Kassim is while democratizing the track.
Kassim Hemed Mganga is a Tanzanian R&B croner who originally is from Tanga but schooled and grew up in Dar es Salaam. He started singing in 2002. A few years later in 2005, he released his first song Shanaiza, but despite the heavy radio rotation the track didnt really do that well. In 2006 he released his second song, Nakuimbia, which did much better and allowed him the FAME he continues to enjoy to date. In mid 2007 he released Haiwezekani and it was official KASSIM was now a household name among the youth in Tanzania.

Jaffarai feat T.I.D – Demu Wangu (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
My good long time friend and artist TID finally got engaged sometime last month. In what was termed bizzare awkward moment to me seemed like typical TID. During one of his performances, he whipped out his shorty from the back and got on one knee. Interesting. Needless to say the quality of music he seems to be involved with lately is relevant and I think appealing to his target audience.
Jaffarai is sick with the rhymes, he has been low key for a while until recently I saw him on a new video with Ambrose, Kama and a new cat called Dimes. Check it out here on NONINIMUSIC. Otherwise I think this is probably one of the years best collaborations ever. Lemar really is putting TZ Bongo flava on the map in ways I had never imagined. Although I am just not so sure with his record label name – “FISH CRAB COOKOUT” I mean really WHY? Anyway maybe they cooking crabs and fish over at his studio because honestly each track out of his kitchen is just FIRE.
Enjoy this meal served by LEMAR.

CLD, Raz, Film C, Chikuzee & OHZY – So Nice (GetMziki Exclusive **)

Every now and then we get some new music from Mombasa and this week we’ve been blessed with music from CLD and crew. Actually let me just list all the artists on this track: CLD (Who sang My Video and Soldier), Film C, Chikuzee, Raz and OHTZ. Frankly we have little or no information about few other artists however CLD has been featured on GetMziki through one capacity or the next. CLD performed Mo-Faya with Abbas a while back – it was part of that catchy hook that got Kenya all wrapped around Mo-Faya [watch the video here if you need a refresher]
Otherwise I think this is a promising track, give it a listen.

K-Lynn feat Hermy B – Not a Flirt

First and foremost this is not a new track, it was released some time last year but we are sort of back tracked with hits that we need to push everything out of the door this week so try and keep up. In accordance so some new processes we are trying out at GetMziki I decided to share the content of these song via one of our partners – BongoCelebrity –
The full copy of this information can be found here:
For many years music making in Tanzania has been “coin” oriented practice. A coin In a sense that it is only two sides that are involved to ensure the material reaches the audience. The artist has to compose, write and get in the booth and sing while correcting herself. The producer has to produce the instruments, record, mix and master. This being done for couple of tracks, one is bound to meet some terrible music along the way. Because, no shoulder could handle such huge burden, without compromising its quality of deliverance.
K’Lynn in her comeback she decided to walk the most feared path by many Tanzanian artists, twice. She decided to use foreign language even though she is aware that she might lose her local fans, but she is up for that because she is now focused to represent our music out of our borders. She broke another rule by letting another person write her idea. Tanzanian artist usually consider singing someone else’s words is a sign of weak artistic skills, but she did not care for as long she makes a good music to bring massive impact.
This track has an urban context, a mixture of hip-hop and R n B, easy to penetrate Europe and America market. All English, with little Swahili to identify her origin. It is about a very pretty woman with a massive sex appeal to the extent it makes every male she looks at, feel like she is flirting (giving sexual signals) with them and this makes his boyfriend very jealous, but it is not her fault it is just her looks.

Fid Q feat J-Bryant – Danger (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

First and foremost we must apologize for going offline for a few days last week. We over exceeded our traffic capacity and as such the useless hosting company we have decided to take it upon themselves to migrate our services to a better server without really giving us ample notice and or giving us the chance to communicate with our audience.
We don’t expect this to ever happen again so – please sit tight as we consolidate all the music that needs to be pushed out.
Why don’t we start the week off with my man Fareed (Fid Q). This song just dropped last week and its off Fid Q’s upcoming title album called PROPAGANDA. This single is heavy, its sick, it feels like something off a movie soundtrack made in the US. J Bryant kills the hook with sultry echoes and really well composed vocal delivery. I don’t really have much info on J Bryant so for now we will kinda have to wait up for more information to drop.

Jay Moe feat Ngwea – Kimya Kimya (GetMziki Best Collaboration)

I figured I might as well post this song after the hot summer jam I posted from Ngwea below. This track came out about 4 to 5 years ago titled Kimya Kimya. Its a complete sample off GAME and 50 Cents hate it or love it which for kicks I have posted below too, however what I wanted to prove is that Africa can sample beats and make them sound FRESHER than the original tracks. I also wanted to demonstrate what an awesome producer P-Funk is.
Kimya Kimya ruled the Tanzanian radio waves for months before it was retired but on my ipod its always on heavy rotation. Enjoy coz these types of tunes dont happen everyday.

Ngwea feat Fid Q – CNN (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

I am always excited to hear new music from Ngwea and anything produced by P-Funk. Bongo Records is at it again. Real Talk though I think P-Funk is still the pioneer of Bongo Flava in the region. I have often said its safe to gauge where Bongo Flava is headed based on what type of music he will put out. This track here is a testament to that truth. As much as there are new comers into the scene mainly people like LEMAR and other old school giants like Ambrose (Mandugu). I still feel like there is something unique that P-Funk brings to the game thats always like a game changer. I will explain my thoughts at a later post not today.
For today I feel blessed to know that my posse Chamba Squad is still doing well and killing it on the mic. Ngwea has had hits for days, he is the artists behind “She got it Gwan“, he is also the man behind “Mikasi” and one of my favorite tracks that I need to post soon ” Kimya Kimya” . With that kind of track record you cant expect anything less from the Chamber Squad pioneer.
I’ve spent a gang of time with the crew back in my youth (makes me feel Old) ha ha ha but back in my hay days I used to sit in the corner with my blunt in my hand with the crew – am old school now. heres proof of that.

Anyway good times, good times. heres some heat from Ngwea – the track is not really new it dropped sometime last yeah in July/August but its been making the rounds in East Africa this week so we thought to give it a spin today.

Ngwea feat Lady Jay Dee – Mapenzi Gani (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

Whenever Alvin comes through with Bongo Flava I know I need to stop what I am doing to pay attention to what he has sent through. The thing with Alvin is that he doesnt just send all these random songs, he takes keen attention to the type of sound we are keen on pushing here at GetMziki and then he makes the transition to send them through. This week our inboxes are flooded with hot new Bongo Flava. My favorite from the pack is a track by KASSIM which is on the homepage – but we will post it up here soon too.
The second heat from Tanzania has to be this banga of a collaboration between Ngwea and Lady Jay Dee. Fish Crab productions – LEMAR and crew are sick with the sound desks. What I get from this track is not only can Bongo producers sample, but they can sample and sample well. This definitely is a sample off Whitney Houston – saving all my love. I think having Jay Dee on the track was also a good plan although Lady Jay Dee needs to stick to just singing swahili – her voice is not necessarily the best, but her lyrical content has always captivated audiences. On this track she brings her tempo up to par with the expectations of the hook, there are moments though she tries to hit them notes and it just feels off. Anyway who am I to talk about how Tanzanians number one singing sensation should be.
Either way this track is fire – both artists just brought their A game on a subtle sample that is just fresh. Enjoy the goodness below.

Mr Blue – Pamoja (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

A few years ago when Mr. Blue dropped with his single Mapozi he took East Africa by storm. Here was this 15yr old boy licking and sucking his lips like LL Cool J, swagger to the bone, with his basket ball vest talking about how to stay true to blue. I recall telling myself whoever is behind this kids success is a true genius, the kid was in BLUE attire all the time, blue cap, blue jeans, blue fitted vest or top. It was brilliant and it worked.
As if his style wasn’t enough his sultry voice got all the young chics buzzin and putting up pin up posters in their rooms. Mr. Blue was trully a phenomenon at his debut. Overtime he fizzled off did some collaborations, went back to school, dropped out went back. I am not sure what the current status is since its been years since I met anyone from his camp however if this new track is any indication of what he is working on currently I could say he is about to make a huge come back.
The beat production is off the chains – Combination sounds! the hook, the subtle freestyle like verses almost make it sound like rapping for him comes so effortless. Real talk folks often said Mr. Blue was arrogant or acted and rapped as if he is arrogant. Personally I say – HELL YEAH! thats your swagger! keep it! its why chiles like your ass. He raps as if he doesn’t give a F%^K about what people think about him. This track is a good indicator of where Tanzanian music is headed. The content is solid and delivery is steady with the content. Tuko PAMOJA!

Chidi Benz feat Ray C – Baby (GetMziki Exclusive ****)

Chidi Benz is probably the hottest Tanzanian artist in the game right now. Actually let me rephrase that – CHIDI IS THE HOTTEST in the game right now as far as GetMziki is concerned. His raspy voice, crazy lyrical flow allow him to pretty much sit in charge of East Africa when it comes to commanding Bongo Flava. I understand he is notoriously known for bad manners and sort of an arrogant demeanor but lets face it, which rapper doesn’t have any arrogant qualities??
I personally like Chidi’s music, its bold its “in your face” its loud – this is probably the first track that I have heard that is probably mellow and has a more laxed mood to it. Alvin sent this track months ago but we slept on it, typically Bongo tracks are posted faster than any other East African tracks. However my man Alvin has been busy and working on getting his A game up. Either way it feels as though we will have a Tanzania week to start the year off because we seem to have gotten a lot of new Bongo music and Taarab so we still need to find a strategy to share all this music.
All in all enjoy this Chidi Benz track featuring another Bad Girl on the hook – Ray C.

Baby J feat Chidi Benz – Nitembee Mbele (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

We tried to find an image that could at least show face of Baby J who we think is going to be the next Tanzanian rising star but to no avail. So we decided to pretty much put up the co-star of this classic Bongo track – Mr. Chidi Benzino. This track is not particularly new, it dropped some time late last year and DJ Dona showcased it in his Bongo celebrity mix, however we never really posted any of the track she put up on that mixtape so we figured it would be important to start of the year with all these hot tracks that have been flying around on mixtapes but no one seems to have a copy.
There isn’t a lot of information available on Baby J, but there are a bunch of remixes and collaborations that feature the prominent voice or the man that its inevitable he will become the next stable name. We are banking on this cat being the next Ali Kiba – although the Baby J name doesnt really sound like a strong brand.
Either way here is a super Bongo track from Baby J featuring Chidi Benz.

Wahu feat Chege – Running Low Remix (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

image courtesy of Wahu – Facebook & Myspace gallery
I feel bad that I have never said or written anything nice or positive about Wahu ever since we started posting tracks here. Its not like I have anything personal against her, I just haven’t been super impressed with the current music she has been putting out. I felt that there wasn’t anything unique about her style or technique. Luckily whether I thought her style was not unique or genuine it didn’t really affect her success in anyway whatsoever. She still remains the most successful Kenyan female artist to date.
The first time I posted the the original version of this song, I expressed a somewhat brush opinion of it and of the delivery, which ofcourse didnt get me so far. I eventually got my hands onto this remixed version of that song, played it a couple of times and voila it started sinking in me. It got me thinking. Maybe some artists are just good on delivering re-mixes or collaborating with other folks, because damn it this remix is hot. Putting Chege on this mix was probably the best idea ever. Chege a Tanzanian superstar has a way of humming and adding adlibs on tracks that just brings the entire experience of the song to a climax.
So I take my words back slightly. Maybe Wahu is a superstar in her own way, coupled with her striking and vibrant personality she makes up what Kenya or Africa looks for in an artist. As a person Wahu is a lovely human being – I like her a lot… musically however I may not share the same opinions with the rest of Africa. I reference Africa a lot in this post because WAHU won best African female artists in 2008 so there has to be something folks saw that I didnt. Anyway I digress. Here is her hit track Running Low.
ps. The guy who shot this video must really consider getting a make up artist. Maybe you dont think that people look at the videos in depth but …. and … maybe its just me but aren’t Chege’s lips ashy or the jama just smoked some bhangi before getting on set? Look at the first 20 seconds when Chege stars hollaring!! LOL …

Ney Wa Matego – Itafahamika Tu

It’s Monday, so it’s time to start the week right by showcasing some new emerging talent from Tanzania. This song is huge in Tanzania as we speak and I’m sure the tons of bongo readers on the site will enjoy this one. Its funny that with all the technology in the world today in terms of file sharing, you still have to “look” for that raw, street, grimy music that takes you back to the C.R.E.A.M days.
Upcoming artists have tons of options when in the studio crafting hits and also trying to figure out ideas of how to penetrate the music industry. They also know what works and what doesn’t since they have studied all the greats before them. Some artists take the “let me diss” them route while some artists go on the “let me hustle” route. Ney Wa Matego picks the former option and goes hard on a couple of Bongo artists like Bwana Misosi, Sister P and Inspekta Haroun.
According to Nay, the track is not a diss track but rather a challenge to the artists to improve on their lyrical skills and start making songs that reflect the changing times. He said that some of the artists mentioned in the song were his role models and he was just trying to keep them re-energized, since some of then were drifting down their original musical paths. To prove that he had no ill feelings, he’s done a remix to the song with a couple of the artists that he mentions on the track.
For those who enjoy that street music, listen to the lyrics.

Dully Sykes – Shikide (Get Mziki Exclusive)

Dully Sykes is one of the pioneering artists in Tanzania. If you don’t have any of his music in your ipod, Serato or Cd Player then you are sleeping on consistent musical talent. The funny part is that if you Google his name Wikipedia says that he’s a dancehall artist. I believe the guy who wrote that article has not listened to Dully Sykes in the last few years.
Known to the worldwide bongo fans as Mr Misifa or Mr Chicks, he’s always pushing the envelope in terms of keeping afloat in the emerging bongo flava scene. If you haven’t listened to his banger “Miss TZ U.K”, you need to do so to hear to know what I’m talking about.
If you are reading this post and wondering what “Shikide” means, then you need to watch the video and get familiar with the new dance style, that is driving the clubs crazy. The song is one of those songs that slowly but surely becomes a top 10 in your musical playlist. Enjoy
