Alikiba Feat. Lady Jay Dee – Single Boy (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I have this compelling feeling that SEVEN (a good friend and a dynamic media personality in Tanzania) is currently behind AliKibas image. I was watching this interview - and I noticed Ali has a glove on one hand, and the shades through the interview… It just felt like SEVEN has a hand in deciding this mans upcoming look and feel. For what its worth Its working. Looking at the image I updated above you can notice Alikiba is currently putting in work at the gym and the ladies will eat this new image up for breakfast, supper and lunch.
So why talk about the song – when we can talk about Alikibas new image and look? Damn the 2012 US tour will be crazy if this is how he plans to enter the country again.
Okay so lets just talk about the song a little, single boy is a good track. Its not a classic Kiba song as i feel it sounds too much like KAPUKA. If you listen to the beat arrangement and kick and snare – you can hear the bumkapuka! bumkapuka! So to me this is just okay – its a winning formula – play it safe, keep the fans safe and sing about something young ladies want to here.
Watch this interview if you have time, Kiba addresses questions about the music, the lifestyle and his own relationship status…

Cassim Mganga Feat. Mr Blue – Ndoa Ndoana
Got some hot new bongo flava from Tanzania (Alvin you killing em playa you killing em)… this is a cross between taraab and some Bongo flava shit. I am unable to classify this new sound because its got that new age sound and a mix of that old classic taarab music that Tanzanian old school women love.
For what its worth I enjoy all these singing artists. And is that Bobby Junior I see making a Cameo on this video? he he he that cat makes me smile, he is too metro sexual. I see the rings, the hair, the dressing ha ha ha I love this new age music and the artists that are coming out. These are all bold statements for a market that pretty much didnt know what to do with metrosexual men. Big ups – lets change the world.

Marlaw – Mbayuwayu Ngo Ngo Ngo (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I could have sworn I posted this song a few weeks back but looking at my getmziki feeds I cant see it anywhere. Whats more shocking is the track has already been played almost 300 times on our soundcloud account so I am confused. Either way this is a big SONG. Its not the first time we are posting a track from Marlaw and it definitely wont be the last time. So I will make this short and let y’all here this banger.

Bob Junior feat Lady Jay Dee – Ng’ombe (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
If anyone here knew what a BIRINGANYA is I would give you TEN POINTS. Songs like these make me miss Tanzania soo much. The lyrical delivery is on another level. Essentially the dude says if he was a herds man he would have bought his shorty a cow, but he is a poor guy so he is growing Cilantro (YES YES Dania is is Cilantro lol). Maze I never thought I would one day be happy that I can actually translate all fruits in swahili.
And did this dude just say “ningekuwa na uwezo wa Rupia” ha ha ha ha if I heard him right it means he is saying if he had money like one of the wealthy families in Tanzania he would be straight. Anyway this track is classic…
“Ningekuwa Mfugaji wa wanyama, Ngombe ningewapatia ila mimi mkulima wa nyanya na bamia” Again 10 points for anyone who can tell me what BAMIA or BIRINGANYA is.. ha ha ha.. Please no calling your Tanzanian friends.

Professor Jay feat Marco Chali – Kamiligado (Getmziki Exclusive ***)
Proff Jay is working on some new material and so far I can tell you the response is phenomenal. When you get producers and DJs making mad remixes to your track then you know you have a hit on your hands. But for this particular track i don’t think the fact that I have my hands on the original and one phenomenal remix are what excite me the most. I think its the fact that Prof and Marco Chali have built an entire website to push this single.
When was the last time you saw an East African artist go to this great lenght to push his single? Check out the website and the free download (something I encourage all artists to do before they drop their albums).
I have to say I am totally impressed. Now back to the music, Kamili gado which is sort of a slang word in Tanzania (Kamili means complete) so I figure folks in the streets use it a lot to refer to how settled a dude might be. I could be wrong with my out dated swahili but ideally thats what I hear it means. The original track recorded at MJ records and produced by Marco Chali is official – but Alvin dropped this wicked Dance/Pop/Trance mix that for me completes my weekend.

Nonini ft Christine Apondi – Colour Kwa Face
Nonini has been pushing this song for quite a bit, probably more than any of his other songs in a while. Its a message driven song which is featured on his 3rd Album release titled “godfather of Genge” Colour Kwa Face features Christine Apondi on the hooks and is produced by world renowned Musyoka of Decimal Records.
Nonini has been an active advocate trying to create more awareness to whats happening in Tanzania and other parts of East Africa with regards to albinism. On May 4th 2011, the day was marked the National Albinism Day where and when Nonini joined ASK among other people living with Albinism to walk in the Streets of Nairobi to give support and encouragement as well as provide the much needed awareness to stop discriminating people living with Albinism. The song really urges all East Africans to celebrate their differences. In Tanzania especially Albinos have been a great source of discomfort and discrimination as many were being killed for their body organs and so forth… Google the term + Tanzania and you can read more on the situation.

Young Chaliz Feat. Tundaman – Dezo Dezo
So I have little or no information about Young Chaliz from Tanzania, truthfully when I first heard this song I was like damn that Bamzi and Wawesh beat is about to become commercialized. Am sorry that was my initial impulse, am not saying anyone copied anything here, am just saying initially this whole beat felt like a Dela, Muthoni, Bamzi thing – period. Waithaka please explain to folks in sound technicalities what that fast paced kubumtwaff beat is all about.
Update: Actually after digging up some old files and posts I realize this is that Kingwedu sound… (check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBpK4oUP-vk)
Anyway so after a few spins I realized its actually a catchy tune with an interesting message, the track actually produced by World renowned Masta J (MJ Records). The video sums up every lyrical content that they seem to be talking about which is just hilarious yet meaningful in every aspect. I mean in English basically you want big tingz when you cant afford or handle the big tingz. You cant want to live the fast life when you essentially don’t have what it takes to maintain. The message is strong and if you can comprehend Bongo swahili then you will instantly fall in love with this song. (THANKS ALVIN MCHAGA!!!).
I like Tanzanian music videos, coz very few of them trying to paint a picture that doesnt exist. Like I havent seen a daddy cool video of a guy driving around in a BMW and singing – most of their songs have some vivid image of the context and story. They are shot in the neighborhoods, like this one was shot in Manzese although the shoes on the phonelines or power cables threw me off. Man Africans jamani, we do things sometimes just because we see them on TV LOL. Actually we do them all the time just because we saw it being done on TV. I bet no one in Manzese knows why Black Folk here throw sneakers on power cables in the hood… thats a sucker move on their part – I am still waiting for Prezzo or someone to tatoo up their face with tear drops, then I will probably lose it.
Anyway I like this song – play it but dont just play it, listen to it and watch the video.

TID aka Sukari – Mahaba (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Its been almost 6 years since I last spoke to TID and through the ups and downs I have to admit I am always excited when I receive material from him. I hope at this point and time he has mentally settled down and has learned to mature in his craft. I still hold my reasoning that TID is probably the most talented vocalist in the East African region however his theatrics overshadow his vocal capabilities.
This track is a good testament of what he can accomplish if he continues to stay level headed and free spirited. I mean just listen to the production put together by Lamar and eventfully delivered by Khalid Mohammed… This is just a banger in all ways.

Juma Nature – Umoja wa Tanzania / Jinsi (GetMziki Throwback ***)
Here is a selfish post today – I MISS JUMA NATURE – in not so many words. To me, he is probably the most successful and hardest working Bongo Flava artist in Tanzania up to date. Sure there are other ridiculously crazy swahili lyricists in Tanzania. But between Juma Nature, Inspekta Haroun and Proff Jay (Wasanii wa kizaki kipya), I can’t think of any Bongo Flava artists that I would look forward to listening to since Local Urban Music came to life.
As I walk down memory lane I wanted to share some old skool bangers from the GREAT TANZANIAN artists called Juma Nature also known as Juma Kassim Ally. I want to talk about his legacy as an artist, as a leader and as an influence to the whole TEMEKE group but I wont. At least not today. For today I just need you all to be blessed with these three bangers from his 2004 album titled Ugali. The first song is called Umoja wa Tanzania which speaks to the heart of being Tanzanian and talks about a Unity that the country’s people exemplified.
The next track is Jinsi which talks about a guy who has lost his way in the essence of our Tanzanian culture. And lastly as a Bonus track which is a collabo between Nature and Inspekta Haroun. I love Inspekta he he he dude raps in ways I can’t describe. His English is a culmination of Swanglish and Bongoflava which he only understands. If you understood Bongo then Inspekta is one dude who would keep you highly entertained.

Erica Lulakwa – Close to You (GetMziki Exclusive **)
I am kinda proud to post this song today because Erica just so happens to be a good friend of mine currently based in San Francisco where half of Getmziki lives. First time I met Erica and we talked she told me about her music and all I could reiterate to her was just be yourself. Don’t try to come out with some R&B album it will just backfire. So truthfully I never had the opportunity to sit and sample her music until a few weeks ago when she released her first single off her upcoming debut album.
Honestly I love it, I love the work put into the first production, the time invested and overall the marketing approach. Just watch the quality video and the eye candy they had to fly to Los Angeles to get to fit into the video. I personally think its amazing. This is evidence that when you stick to what you are good at, you definitely will have some room in this huge musical universe. Erica is not new to music and media however, she worked at KISS-FM in Tanzania, Trinity and at TBC (Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation) while pursuing her passion for music on the side. She released a single a few years back titled “Tafakari” and since she’s found her way into the US and currently wrapping up her album.
From this song you can tell she is heavily influenced by the Angelique Kidgoz and has a knack for Zouk sound. For now listen to this relaxed banger and give us your thoughts.

AY feat Lamyia & Romeo – Speak with ya Body (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
So a few months ago AY was in the West Coast touring and we briefly spoke over the phone. He made his trip here seem really modest and humble and soon after he called me from the airport to say goodbye. Its funny I was thinking back about 10yrs ago when artists would get the opportunity to come to the US, many would never go back. Today artists could careless about staying or being in the US. Artists are so comfortable running their careers back home, so much that they can fly to the US to collaborate on a track and then fly back home…
Here is a perfect example of what the future of African Urban Music holds for artists who can nurture strategic relationships with different Western Artists. Now I accept the fact that ROMEO hasn’t had a hit in years but it still doesn’t change the fact that he is not one of the most accessible folks right now. There are other D or C listers you’d have a harder time getting to collaborate on a track or get clearances but I am just fascinated at how AY pulled this off. I am more fascinated at the fact that he stayed true to his Tanzanian roots and killed his verse in SWAHILI.
If you ever got to see the original pictures of this music video shoot, you will have noticed that Megan Good was somewhere on the production set. That’s because Lamyia is Megan goods sister so sis was somewhere around supporting family. The track was produced by Riley from Checkmate and the video done by the Outliers, Directed by Shai and William Tikki.

Professor Jay – Kama Ipo (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I dont know if I have ever put it out there publicly that I really love Professor Jay, not just as an artist but as a person. For realz I really really love this cat. I can spend hours with this cat on the phone just laughing coz the guy is just an infectiously funny interesting guy, with a lot of knowledge and interesting things to say about life and his experiences. Honestly once you get over his position in the market place and the fact that he is a very successful Bongo Flava artist, once you get him real comfortable to become himself – Joseph Haule is eventually just an interestingly honest calm funny guy.
So the fact that I am all jazzed up about the man is not directly related with the fact that this track is just a hot azz track. Prof collaborated with Fish Crab Cook Out on this banger to deliver what I think is undoubtedly the next sing along track in Tanzania. 41 Records/G Records or Fish Crab Cook Out are on to some next level production right now. I like how these guys just defined a sound that I can readily identify as Tanzanian Bounce.
To be real honest right now I am like a baby in a topless bar, itching to release this track so lets go hard on this one – its a friday, if your a DJ rip this and GO HARD on the crowds tonight. On every part Jay say Kama IPO – KILL the faders and let the crowd learn that life is about ups and downs… But if you got it.. you’ve got it
Kama Ipo, Ipo tu.
I had to share some of the images I got from the production shoot.
Sidenote: Its amazing how a country that has problems with power, water and other major economical problems currently. Has a 3% population that lives way above their means and feels nothing about the rest of the country… It always jazzes me when I look at the inequalities and the disparities between the different communities in Tanzania… Interesting times in that country right now.

Mr Blue – Tila lila (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

Finally what I was waiting for, a song that celebrates nothing but pure alcoholism lol. Seriously when you listen to this song back to back you will realize two main things 1) its very repetitive, 2) he only spits about 4 to 5 bars lol. Okay enough clowning, Mr. Blue or on this video more like Mr. Red has grown up so much, I almost thought his music wouldn’t grow with him at all. Its amazing how he has reshaped his brand to accommodate his old fans (mainly tweens) and his new fans this new age youth that like a lot of western sounding music.
There are various parts of this song that seem like they have been engineered (audio or vocals) and then there are parts that he seems to be raw so I am slightly confused. In a way I could hear T.I.D all over this track especially when he pulls his cords in between the chorus. Either way this is a cool club track I would imagine, its a feel good song with no important message to send forward ha ha ha but please lets remember that KERORO made NONINI’s career in Kenya. So to me it may appear anytime you sing about being drunk or about boozing – then you might have a winner… (pass the courvoisier)

Mo plus feat JohMakini – Xray (GetMziki Exclusive **)
I got this crazy Tanzania music I need to push out and I apologize to all artists and producers who’ve been waiting for months for me to post their music. Sometimes life happens, that said lets get into this ridiculous sample. Moplus feat JohMakini (who we just posted a few days ago) on this track called X-ray which is actually off an album appropriately titled “baba wa ukoo” Vol 1. It looks like there is an Arusha uprising of producers or maybe this one producer who loves sampling all these East Coast beats. I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, the jury is still out on this one but frankly it makes the music sound a little bit better – but at the same time I feel like originality is being lost.
For what its worth bless this track let me know what you think.

Joh Makini feat G-Nako & Lady Jay Dee – Kilimanjaro
Joe Makini (real name John Simon) is a Bongo flava artist (Tanzanian) who hails from Arusha. I was wondering when someone from Arusha would come out and just rep their city in a big way, well I guess I dont have to wait anymore. This however is not to say that there aren’t any other Arusha heavy weights. It just means for the first time in my opinion someone is actually bragging about their city and the one iconic thing that’s in their city – the Kilimanjaro.
Joe or Joh as some call him had his debut in 1997 but it really wasnt until 2004 when he became an essential artist in the region when he released “hawapendi”. In 2006 he released Chochote Popote which ultimately went to cement his reputation as a formidable Bongo Flava artist in the region. Today as I sit and listne to Kilimanjaro, I cant help but feel a sense of pride and belonging – I feel happy to be Tanzanian… well sorta lol – but still this is just a feel good song that’s all about repping your city.

Soul singer and Linah Sanga has been doing some incredible things in Tanzania. Ally Kiba – Dushelele (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Okay we are back in business, we decided to take a route we have been avoiding for years simply because we like to have better control of our music files but I am sure this too will change in the next few months or years once they get bought out. So over the next few weeks we will be migrating our music to soundcloud and also changing the settings on previous tracks that are still using our SkyDrive service.
That said let me bless your Friday with this new Ally Kibas. Every time you see a Bongo Flava track it means Alvin is alive. Alvin has been low key for weeks if not months but as if to resurrect himself through this banger. it almost makes it worth it that he goes in and out of my life lol.
Ally Kiba is a genius and I think after listening to this track over and over again and watching the video. I realise he just set the bar again for the next two years for all the Tanzanian R&B sensations and aspirational artists. This feels like Fally Ipupa and then on the Flip side it feels like I am sitting on a Mkeka listening to Taarab (not that I do that anyway). Dude is just good or he has good people around him advising him on what kind of music or sound to put out.
*The quality of this track my not be up to GM standards but we will surely update soon.

Noorah – Lugha Gongana (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I didn’t quick realize how much I had missed Noorah until I listened to this track recently. Lugha Gongana means language breakdown really in the simplest way to translate the term. Noorah is one skilled mofo in word play especially when it comes to crafting smart tracks such as this one or Ukurasa wa pili which was produced by MJ records.
Noorah takes it back to his classic back and forth with a female in this crazy Lugha gongana. The genius in this track is phenomenal if you can follow along Noorahs bongo flava swahili flow then you will enjoy this track. From what I understand Hermy B produced the beat, which I think could have come much stronger but lets let that slight because Noorahs hooks over delivered.

This track just came out last week and It’s been on constant rotation on my weekly playlist alongside some new Meek Mill, P-Square and some “Bonoko” remixes. Funny thing is we just showcased another track from Jaffarai a few weeks ago but who’s really complaining.
On this latest track, Kenya’s Wyre the “Love Child” jumps on Jaffarai’s latest track “Mcharuko” for an awesome collabo. I don’t really know what “Mcharuko” means but all I know is that the track deserves a feature. I’ll let the track breathe on it’s own. Jaffarai is definitely dong his thing and proving to everyone out there that he’s on his way to becoming one of the most valuable players in Bongo music.!!!!!

MwanaFa – Unanijua Unanisikia(GetMziki Exclusive)
Mwana FA also known as Binamu is no stranger to the GetMziki folk and has been a consistent artist in Tanzania hip hop circles. If u have been following his musical journey, then you know that some of his hits including collabos that still rock clubs include ‘Alikufa kwa Ngoma’, ‘Naongea na Wewe’ ‘Mabinti’, ‘Bado Nipo Nipo, ‘Usije Mjini’, ‘Msiache Kuongea’, ‘Unanitega’, ‘Dakika Moja’ and ‘Habari Ndio Hiyo’.
On this new track produced by Hermy B At B’Hits studio, MwanaFa is literally asking people whether they “know him or hear him”. Its one of the tracks that u really gotta listen carefully while digesting the lyrics and punchlines. The video also incorporates the four pillars of hip hop namely MCing, DJing, break dancing and graffiti writing in a unique way.

TMK Majita – Mazingira Yetu

There have been so many splinter groups from the original TMK WANAUME group over the last few years, its almost impossible to figure out who is left in the original TMK team or if these are new TMK outfits. Essentially it may appear there are variations of the TMK group “original” in TZ. In any event I think if they are all from Temeke (the city which is short for TMK) then they all deserve to use the same name and just create their own variations.
