Wendy Kimani – Rumor (Waithaka Ent Remix ***)
I think after listening to a few of Waithaka Ent’ remixes I have come up to the conclusion that some artist need to reach out to Mugo way in advance before they make some of their joints lol. Honestly when i listen to Wendy Kimani’s original Rumor track (which I had and just kinda didnt think it had the kick). I feel as though its time to work backwards. How about producing some remixes first and then trying to find out how the original track can fit in?
This particular remix was put together by Waithaka Ent Additional Editing, Mixing and Mastering was done by Kevin Provoke of AMG Kenya. I love the video below but the original track didnt move me as much as this banging club remix. Wawesh – WASHOUT!!! LOL… Letsgo.. bless this Rumors on your speakers.

Muthoni the Drummer Queen – Welcome to the Disco (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
So I spend a lot of time online as do many other folks, I spend majority of my time trying to find new websites that are either doing the same thing GetMziki is doing or trying to elevate what we started. I also spend a lot of time finding curators and writers who have deeper insights into Urban African music more than myself since evidently I have been living out of Africa for such a long time I am losing touch with the sound. My only source of insights is the Internet and the few producer friends that I frequently keep in touch with. The challenge with this is that there is a general bias based on what those/these producers are currently working on.
So I visit the AfricanUnsigned, the Musekes of this world and I will spend hours sampling, reading and understanding the music, the culture, the sound. For most part I can tell you most of the sound coming from Africa has been more of less the same. However in the last 5 years a significant shift in the direction of music has happened across the continent as a whole. A fusion of dance, house, rock, electronic and pop has taken over the African sound. I wish I was a good writer, I would educate you guys on a list of producers and artists trying to create something new and fresh that Africa and the world just need to pay attention to. However I am not a writer – I simply am a music enthusiast with good ears for good shit.
The dilemma is when stuff like the attached track produced by Wawesh and written and performed by Muthoni come to my circle of interest I am slightly out of the loop with where to bucket this sound. Everything I have read online seems difficult to describe Muthoni’s style. Break beat, Indie pop, Indie Rock, Afrop, Afro Pop, Afrock LOL… Wawesh would definitely have a name for this music but lately I think Wesh is just having fun with music which I admire about his creative process. I will post some of Bamzigis upcoming tracks and honestly you’ll either say the bhangi these guys are smoking is from Kijabe or basically these guys are onto something huge. A lot of musicians are scared to go off the grain because it challenges their norm, their formula for success. But when you have nothing to lose I think you basically allow yourself to express music in its purest form.
On this track its evident we are on that pre-school musical tip and playing around with songs we grew up with but yet finding ways to make them currently relevant. Its like selling a guy a cheese sandwich with caviar or foie gras on focaccia bread (google all these items if you cant identify any of them). Anyway Muthoni you know how I feel about you so it goes without saying I am just curious to sample the entire album to see where your head is at. Wesh, give up the blue pills come back to earth … coz truly we are writing new chapters that I am not sure if the market is ready for these sounds but if not I know you are coming hard… Let me find that BASHETE!!
ps. I love Muthonis tumi dimples.

Colonel Mustafa feat Alisha Popat – Mera Pyaar Kiya (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I need to make a quick selfish post today, this track wasnt getting the approval from the GetMziki team as such but I like it a lot and am going to post it by force by force!! LOL. I have no real information on Alisha Popat, I did a quick Facebook search and she looks like she is a singer/poet based in South Africa but crosses border between there and Kenya. I love her voice, as much as it sounds like the hook is in Indian or Gujirati… Either way I liked her voice and the production of the track so much I rigged in the track.
Colonel it goes without saying how I feel about him. I like his work and I like how he selects unique tracks for himself. Without really going into any more details – listen to this banger.

Collo – Chini ya Maji

I will probably get in trouble with Collo for posting this song but lets face it the SONG is fire and needs to be heard. Collo has been reinventing himself and re branding himself – its a hard sell especially when you spent half your career locked into one of the most successful rap groups in the East African region. But the reality is that the more I watch these videos and listen to all this music – I am getting more and more accustomed to seeing Collo on his own element and I am loving it.
Collo is just a gifted lyricist there isnt much to anything I can add to this track other than just listen to it and be blessed. Chini ya Maji…

Jaguar – Kigeugeu (Wawesh Refix – GetMziki Exclusive ***)

Am going to make this post real quick coz this week I have a lot of things going on and there is a whole gig of music I am sitting on. Wawesh and I are working on something exclusive for the producers, on this list of people I am hoping to work with closely with some other heavy weights in the region but this project is to be released soon so watch out for it.
Part of the inspiration to get that project moving has been these monthly hits that Wawesh puts together, just to get the market all excited and rallied up behind what I want to call GOOOD music. Wesh has done a few refixes in the last 4 months but I’ve only had the chance to share two this being the third and my favorite of them all. Its nice when you can actually get a renowned producer to start doing fun projects that have nothing to do with revenue and have a lot to do with pushing the artists (even when the artists is not in his camp). I mean this track is just a FEEL good track, its like Wesh was in the studio and heard Kigeugeu and figured he can do something interesting with the track and he did. I love that about our community and I am hoping in the true spirit of creativity this continues to grow beyond what it is today.
Traditionally DJs would do remixes or mashups over other beats, but to get a producer to actually create fresh beats, sample old school tracks and just make the music is something I find compelling. To me this can actually start making me question the original TRACK lol… I love these refixes Wesh keep em coming and lets keep building this ecosystem. We need more material, and more importantly we need more good material. I cant get enough of how you ended this refix – TEN NIL.

Ajabu – Hello Hello (GetMziki Exclusive **)
So this is Sir Prestige’s next project so I have to be very careful with how I go about making this post. First because Patrick (aka Prestige) is a good friend lol second because knowing Prestige and his previous successes ala ESTELLE in the UK if I say some shit about Ajabu I will end up regretting a few years if not months from today. So I will keep this simple and focused on the product and not the perceptions.
Off the top of my head this TRACK is crazy in terms of production (of course its produced by PRESTIGE) – I however think Ajabu could have come much better especially as a debut track. Her hook seems to be lacking in my humble opinion and I have enough time to digest the track since I go it. To be honest I can tell she can flow so the lyrical composition wasn’t the problem I think the challenge often with artists trying to break from overseas is finding that balance to be authentic and still maintain their new modified cultures acquired while living abroad.
Either way I like the track – its catchy and can grow on you, I am not sure if folks would play this in a club but definitely an ipod chaser and car thumper.
ps. Ajabu is cake though I would be willing to compromise on the music for a date lol speaking of which I understand they have a killer collabo with STL, Prestige why don’t you sambaza that to my inbox. It would be a dream come true to have two cakes on a cover in my books…

Kwame Rigii feat Nyach – Holela (GetMziki PSA***)
One of the few reasons I love GetMziki so much is because I am able to do what I am about to do today, which is basically giving fresh breath of air to a local new aritst that we think has so much potential. This is KWAME RIGII, he actually did the hook for my late brother (HOWEE) song “MAMA”. There is something soothing about this track as much as its a PSA track, I think Kwame’s vocals really come out well. There is so much potential in these harmonies – the choice of lyrical content and composure really bring the essence of this track together.
HOLELA means CARELESS, and the track is about holding up/abstain, or pretty much just hold up zip up your pants think twice before you engage in any sexual activity. They also shot and directed an animated video that plays off the message on the song. The goal was simple, lets make a song that will empower both men and women concerning safe sex. To me I think mission accomplished although it will take a lot more than a smooth soothing song to change the perceptions of a lot of folks in Africa with regards to having safe sex. It also might help if the government can ensure there are enough Condoms in circulation to help folks with matters of NGONO.. I mean damn how can a whole country run out of condoms (Kenya!! Really?? Thats an epic fail on Baks and his team).

Kidum feat Sanaa – Mulika Mwizi (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I feel like at his peek TID from Tanzania should have been something more prominent like KIDUM. Unfortunately I feel as though TID wasted a large part of his career to growing up and trying to define himself as a R7B artists when he had the opportunity to be so much more than what he was struggling to be. Each time I listen to KIDUM something special happens inside my body (sijui ni nini)… Maybe these Rwandese folks have some juju or something. Truthfully when you put KIDUM and SANAA (formerly of SEMA) the music is just magical.
Am going to try and limit the amount of influence I am imposing on this track but truthfully if you like Urban Soul/ Kenyan Soul or for lack of a better way to classify these sounds “Afropean Soul” then you definitely will love this track. Sing on KIDUM sing on. Good production on this track by the way, its just smooth and mellow.

Mejja – Landlord (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I need to make a quick post before the long weekend starts for all the folks who are based in Kenya. It’s fascinating to me how Kenya and some other countries in Africa have about a four day holiday during Easter. Anyway I need to post this song coz the video is fire – real talk I have over stated how I love Calif Records videos over and over again. Luch and Clemo are just on another level in terms of capturing our African lifestyles and African way of life in their videos. Its also refreshing how Mejja makes songs for the people. Really here is one artists who rarely talks about how much money he has made, about what car he is driving and how his social economics have changed. If anything I think he works ten times harder to capture the social dynamics of the real mwananchi in Kenya.
I often feel a little lost when you talk to guys who live in uptown Nairobi, its as though Nairobi is a country in itself. There are guys who will watch this video and listen to the song and really cant relate to it. I love the fact that Mejja makes videos in Calif (for most part all his videos have been so fresh man).
Clemo released a new mobile application (WAP based app) that you now can download longs, videos and so forth if you are in Kenya. [CalifMobile.com] or [http://www.califentertainmentafrica.com/califmobile/index.php] Ideal if you access it using your mobile phone as opposed to the browser. I talk to Clemo often and I like the fact that his camp is always trying to push the envelop. I think these cats have a very good understanding of the local market in Kenya and I like that they push the envelop each time.
Enjoy this killer track and lovely video – happy Easter.

Madtraxx feat Simaro Lutumba – Skamaress (Jerry O remix)
I am thinking of retiring this song officially, never has one song garnered so much attention and hype in the history of GetMziki waaa!!! But before I do let me do a quick post from my connect in Nairobi called Jerry. Jerry is currently the music manager at Milele FM in Kenya which mostly plays Rhumba, zilizopendwa and other old classic African sounds. However sometimes they venture out to play urban African tunes to which I am much obliged to be a part of. Notwithstanding I have had a few remixes of the Kamares song but I think this one would cap out our Madtraxx, Chava adventure for the month simply based on how Jerry put this thing together.
Jerry mixed his version with the original Simaro Lutumba’s Maya song which in essence just sounds fresh. Listening to it I wish he would have the Lutumbas version ride out a little more but for the sake of creativity this is still sounding fresh. Am posting this because I believe these types of efforts are what make us as an industry just go out of limb to do great things. Truthfully after weeks of arguments and emotional torrents over which version is better – I think one thing is clear both artists were paying homage and in this day and age thats a rare thing to come by. I wish someone would remix Mary Atienos (Adamu na Eva) or Munishis (Kuokoka ndio fashion)… then we would be talking…

Size 8 – Fire (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
If I am not wrong Size 8 was formerly known as Linet and she was recording with Calif Records, actually I am sure its her coz there is no way two women could look this similar. The key difference in my eyes however is that Size 8 looks more cake than Linet (LOL) I mean that in a good way, its like Size 8 has had a breath of fresh air blown into her and just looking at this Fire video am like DAMN!!! Chile is hawt.
The Make up is done up well, the body is looking tight, the wardrobe could use some few pointers here and there but Jomino put together a video that just her stand out as a great artist. From what I understand she actually has a burgeoning career in the local Television scene. She made a small screen appearance on some courtroom drama called Mahakama, KBC’s Plot Ten as well as appearing on Vioja Mahakamani and Changing Times as well. Reading this article on some KenVibez post it appears that she actually went through some personal drama a while back. Without really going into the details of what happened I think I will just end this post on a vote of confidence towards her career.
I personally love this song, not only because its was written for me, but mostly because for once the Kenyan Fire Engines were used for something useful like a music video (lol) coz lawd knows those “mazima motos” dont really have any real function in that country. I also just love the video, I mean look at the chile her facial expressions, her beauty in the video is emulated so well (if she just could have lengad that pink polker dotted dress of hers and kept the black dress)… really a stylist would’ve been key for this wardrobe but Still I love the video, the light choreography and ultimately her brass voice as it kills the chorus each time Faiyaa Faiiiyaa!!! love it. Size 8 is really … well… a SIZE 8
Enjoy the track.

Fauz Noir – Nu Bounce
One thing I like the most about new artists is the hunger, I am often inspired by guys who are fearless and just ask you for honest opinion on their tracks. I however tend to lean towards artists that are able to back up their career path. By this I mean don’t send me a song if you are not ready to support your career with a video, a photoshoot amongst other things that will definitely make your life cycle as a recording artists successful.
So maybe on an average day I probably would have missed this track by Fauz, especially because I havent heard the name Fauz anywhere in my inner entertainment circle. However when he sent me his track this week, he included the audio, the video and images (I LOVE THAT) because it makes my work so much easier. And by that simple virtue I decided I must post the track regardless of whether its a banger or not.
Now lets get to the nitty gritty here – Fauz honestly reminds me of MYSTIKAL (you know Mista Shake ya Ass, and DANGER)… I think he probably will be the first East African artsits with this unique rapping style unless I missed something somewhere. Each time I play this song I just hear a Kenyan-esq Mystikal.. ha ha ha.. that shizz is amazing. This particular track seems to be an ode to Nairobi which is the city thats has influenced Fauz upbring. Through out the song he shouts out all the neighborhoods he has lived in that albeit shaped him and motivated him to be better and to become an artist. Funny enough in his words not mine he says … “I see music and Nairobi so closely intertwined that they form the shape of beautiful women, whom I adore and woo to develop this new style of music called “NU BOUNCE”
So I don’t know if this new music style will stick, I also currently don’t have any tangible thoughts about him as a new artists. At the moment I just think he is different – and DIFFERENT CAN BE GOOD. But give me a few more days to collect my thoughts, I will add them in the comments section. For now enjoy the track as well…. this could be the beginning of something new and fresh.

Alhamdulillah – Lulu **Exclusive**
This track just landed in my inbox, and i’m not even hesitating to post it, give it a listen there is something of a freshness to it.I met Lulu before since he works in a studio on the 2nd floor. The first tracks i had from him were interesting but missing something – but i guess the kid been perfecting he’s craft and this track might just be a big hit.
Camp Mulla – Digital Love (GetMziki Futures ****)
Mike Wanguhu put me up on game a few weeks/months ago about a cat called K-Plaz. My initial impulse was a little dismissive coz I felt he sounded something off a St Louis rappers book. Don’t get me wrong though, I told Mike that dude was tight but I didn’t think much of it initially because in my mind he musta been one of the new school Kenyan rappers moved back home now making beats.
This morning when Faridah hit me up telling me about Camp Mulla I was like isn’t this the same cat that Mike put me up on game with? Coz they sounded familiar, but Faridah made such a fuss I had to give this another listen. A few hours later I have been converted and I am now a believer. From what I understand none of these cats have stepped a foot out of Kenya which just makes it crazy when you think about their accents and english flow. There is a possibility that they are Hillcrest kids but that in itself is just scary to think about how the language has come into play so perfectly that I was sold on them being from Missouri or some shit.
As it stands today Camp Mulla is a Kenyan Rap Group founded by rappers Taio Tripper, Young Kass, Super-Producer K’Cous and their syndicate C.E.O, Tuchi. Other band Members include Miss.Karun, the First Lady and J-smiles who are superb vocalists. Camp Mulla’s main goal is to spread Urban Hip Hop music influence all Over East Africa and soon Globally.
I particularly like their 2-5-Flow word play for (two five four yaani kumaanisha 254 KENYA)…. As of today I tried downloading some off their tracks of soundclound and they have reached their maximum capacity downloads. So I embedded the track that I think is FIRE (Take it to the Floor). I did manage to share this crazy joint featuring the First lady whom I think honestly just has crazy vocals… Truthfully Faridah may have been right – there is a small movement in Kenya thats changing hiphop locally as we grew up to know it. And these cats could very well be the future.
I never really rant and rave about a group unless I think they have real potential and these cats to me personally I think they are onto something.
They call this KENYAN SKATEBOARD MUSIC!!!!

Stella Mwangi – Haba Haba (GetMziki Exclusive **)
Considering we all live under some rocks, apparently the MGP Nordic 2011 (some Scandinavian song contest) have been going on and our dear Stella Mwangi better known to us as STL just made it to the finals. Let me just be clear, to make it to the finals you have to have gone through a rigorous process so this in itself is some massive accomplishment in my opinion. She won the 3rd Semifinal which was held in SKIEN last Saturday and now with this hit new song – HABA HABA she is off to some new phenomenal heights.
Now there are a few interesting things happening here that I am sure are going to catch some of you unaware much like they caught me unaware. Stella is singing, dancing and amazing judges as if she been doing this for a minute. I mean this is STL, the rapper!!! the freestyle artists, the BIACARA artists – where was all this hidden talent when were were banjukaing to BIACARA and the Dreamers??? I am totally amazed. I’ve had to watch the youtube clop below a few times to actually come to terms that some people are just born performers and damn it Stella is a performer.
Anyway for now the girl needs our support even though we cant be in Norway – we send our love and support and we look forward to you winning this thing. (Charles/ side note – looks like Melodi Grand Prix is a song context for kids aged 8 to 15 unless things changed ama? Please educate me/us on the details ama how old is Stella if you don’t mind me asking lol). Either way my question is irrelevant, am glad homegirl is giving the whole haba na haba hujaza kibaba a good spin off… I am impressed and I am speechless. I dont know if I necessarily love/like the song that much, its not the type of track you banjuka to, but I love the fact that she has changed her game and is bold enough to do things out of her element. You go girl… Getmziki Salutes you.

Habida – Get Down Tonight
I need to apologize to Habida for sleeping on this track. Somehow somewhere in the back of my mind I feel like I had posted it last year but I can’t seem to find it anywhere on GetMziki. So Habida my apologies, however I have a pretty good feeling you didn’t really miss the post as much with your new hectic busy maternal schedule lately (wink* wink*). Congratulations!
R.Kay (Robert Kamanzi) blessed this track from start to finish, i’ts interesting how I can hear a beat and know thats an R.Kay signature beat. He has a distincitve way of keeping his music production style African. In most cases there is an element of Benga or Zouk being fused together with some Urban essense which I find fresh when put together with a soulful artist. Actually the beat was so fresh I almost forget that Habida is singing in english (coz I have a pet peeve with many Kenyan artists who sing in english and dont do it well). But I am glad Habida doesnt really have this problem (Kennesaw and Rusinga really helped lol).
That said on a personal level, looking at the video I can see so much growth and maturity in her, I understand she is a mother and generally there will be changes in most women but its amazing to see that she is still working it in the video, she looks hot and still sexy. Whats more evident to me is that the clothing style has changed sexy yet still conservative. Am always trying to tell mamas here that you can be sexy and conservative but you don’t have to pull some scandalous mini sketi and some avunjas to get attention. But am often shut down because most mamas believe that they dress to make themselves feel good – blaargh whatver.
I also gotta say I love the video, I love the quality of the video especially the lighting and the color treatment. But I hated the dancing routine and competition thing going on in the background. I think dancing in Kenya is still in its infancy – I enjoy the mosquitoes and Kangaroos anyday more than guys trying to “Bring it On” and they don’t really bring it. I mean there are a few guys on that video that could really dance, but the rest were like an average 30/100. Anyway i digress as usual. Habida this is a tight jam and a much needed production – Am feeling it.
ps. For the instrumental and accapella hungry DJs – hit me up for these assets.

Wyre Feat JB. MAINA – Mwanake (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I am sitting here feeling really bad that I discredited Wyre a little too early in the game. Truthfully I hate the whole Jamaican/accented Kenyan rapping style. Considering hate is a big word, I just dislike it. I find it not authentic and unoriginal, however its hard to ignore the fact that some people actually make some good songs using this singing format as their brand, as their core musical DNA.
One such artist is WYRE. The thing is Wyre can sing his heart out, I’ve seen him perform live, ive seen him try all sorts of different things but I figure he just loves Dancehall/Reggae. And long before he started making his recent hits – I had discredited him and said I had heard enough of Wyre and I moved on to the next one. But its hard to ignore a moving snowball, with so much momentum. Listening to this well credited, well articulated and much deserving tribute to Kenyan Kikuyu folk music – I cant help but feel like a dumb ass for putting the man down.
Today I realise that for some artists if doing you is doing things differently or unauthentic from your own culture then its fine. If doing you is doing Dancehall and faking patois then just do you. Wyre has been consistent with his music, his genre and himself for a long time – I think its just me whose been late in accepting Wyre. Honestly listen to Chuki by Wyre and tell me if thats not him at his best. Listen to Wyre featyring TID – Kama ndoto Kweli. (Although he has a version where he is just by himself check it out). Anyway maybe am just a hater but I think Wyre is one of the talented vocalist in the area, my problem is I get stuck in his Jamaican thing I forget what a great artist he can be.
This track is fire – I understand all Kyuks are going crazy over this collaboration in Kenya right now. This is a remix of JB Maina’s track and I cant think of a better way to pay homage or pay tribute to a Kyuk legend that to collaborate with an Urban artist such as Wyre. I know local DJ’s will go crazy on this – can someone send me the original JB Maina Song? I’ve heard this song at almost every Kyuk function I’ve attended over the last 6 years… With this collabo I rest my case on Wyre …

Mimmo – Morning After (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Two or three years ago Mimmo dropped a hot classic track featuring Collo (Klepto) – Best Friend. The song was fire, there was no two ways about it, the video was hot but soon after her momentum just slowed down. I personally haven’t heard of anything from her since then, until last week when she dropped this fire in my inbox.
The track is produced by Freddie Homeboyz and is appropriately labelled Morning After. The lyrics and content are relevant and I have always thought Mimmo has a good voice compared to some of the other well known female vocalist in Kenya.

Christine Apondi – Mateso ya Roho

We just got this track from our Kenyan street connect Dan Mixa and we just had to bless the GetMziki fans with this song. Christine Apondi who is a former Tusker Project Fame season 1 finalist and also Mnet pop idols finalist has been slowly establishing her musical foundation which really made people take notice when she did the background vocals for Nonini’s hit single “Kadhaa”.
She is currently working in the studio recording her still untitled debut album and “Mateso ya Roho” is the first official single. Word is that Ambrose, from Mandugu Digital will doing the majority of the song production on her debut album.
“Mateso ya Roho” is one of those tracks that really bring out Christine Apondi’s strong unique vocals, beauty and charisma making her debut album something to look foward to. The video also captures the song’s vybe really well. Enjoy!!!

Musyoka will probably kill me for putting this song here but I am sure we will find a way or room for forgiveness somewhere down the road. Again as I always say its better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
This track is on the Wagenge Album which I have had for a looooong time. Part of the reason I am debuting this song here today is because I think the album needs an extra push. P-Unit has worked so hard on this album. The entire album is a hit, an average of about 8 dope songs, 6 top number 1 singles its inevitably the greatest album of the year from Kenya as far as I am concerned. The challenge however is that the singles business may have messed up the album launch and sales process (but Kenyan music doesnt work that way).
Essentially the label/artists pushed out atleast 5 singles over the last 3 years while they were working on this album. I know what Musyoka will say, so I wont table it here but the reality is thats the same strategy used with Ogopa about 10 years ago. It works to increase awareness/brand affinity and performances – but does little for their actually music sales. I could be wrong coz according to Nonini his album has sold a couple thousand copies, so I dont know.
Anyway – Aggie na Maggie is my favorite track off that album. I couldn’t share it before because the album had just dropped but I think this is probably the track they should have pushed above everything else. There is something unique about P-unit’s ability to connect local dialect/street language with the reality of urban music. Having Musyoka along side any artists is just a gift, I dont even consider it a business strategy anymore. If you listen to the instruments on this track you will realise Musyoka left Kenyan production a long time ago (which is not necessarily a bad thing). However give this track a spin for realz..

Delicious – Usiniache (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
So initially when I got this track I was tripping off who the artists is and how he is so talented yet I have no info about who he is. Well not much has changed since then – I still dont have any real information about Delicious however the vocal capabilities can be backed by a killer track that I have always liked from his old album called Tamu sana. Its one of those tracks you either liked or you didn’t.
I liked to hate that track coz Blackstar DJs would play it all day everyday in all their mixes. Anyway usiniache is a banger, the video is a little cheezy but the track is tight – It dropped earlier this summer but I can see this being a big joint all through the year. Give it a listen.

Collo – Huduma ya Kwanza (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I am probably going to be in trouble for posting this song here – but F*&k it this is a CRAZY joint needs to be loved. I had a previous version of the same track but the quality was pathetic so there was no need to post it up here. However when this CDQ landed on my laps – I knew I had to push it regardless of a few minor details here and there.
So here are the facts – Track is produced by ULOPA NGOMA, blessed by the one and only Collo (King wa rap) from Kleptomaniacs. I am still trying to figure out who blessed the hook/vocals coz that cat is off the chains. But honestly this song is FIRE – it doesn’t matter how many ways you dissect it and digest it. This is a banger in more ways than one. Ulopa is on fire – the arrangement of this track sits very well with the crazy new sound coming from the East Coast in the US currently. The drums the beat maps. All so familiar sound, once you add a little genge/sheng and English its just a classic.
I will spare you with my praises please put your headphones on if you are listening to this at work – play it loud. Collo you did it again on this one. Big ups. Big ups to all the cats at Msanii Records also…

Wachera – Msichana Mdogo
I love Dallas, mainly because Wangari, Emma and some other local fools live around that area. Not to mention my man Tom Mwicigi (Uhuru Clothing) lives there. Its amazing Tom’s name has eventually become Uhuru Clothing. I told him it would happen but I guess he knew he was a walking brand – anyway I digress. There is a track from some Dallas chile that I have been meaning to post for weeks but I just keep getting caught up – life happens especially when you are stuck in this Obamaconomy, however am glad I am able to get to it today so here goes.
A few months ago when I heard this song I didn’t think it was all that, I thought it was just okay, I honestly felt like she has a good voice but the beats were too fruity-loops for me and the arrangement could do with some work. My personal opinion was that she has a voice which she needs to tap into and build up on. However I got ruled out by some of the ‘opinionators’ that we have on GetMziki. Personally I think these cats (whom I won’t name) just love Dallas and they got a lot of love for Wachera thats all. Down playing Wachera’s capabilities as an artist would be wrong because she’ been singing for few years but never really took it very seriously. Infact the lead vocals on Daddy V’s track are blessed by her cords. If you have listened to the infectious Daddy V tune – Nare and Julietta (if you guys recall these tracks the catchy hooks are what generally made these songs) then you’ve heard her. I just personally think that is she focused on singing and got some good ass producers she could be flawless.
Anyway Wachera is a sweet heart her emails and communication were just heart felt, I couldn’t help but post this track here. Give it a listen and let me know what you think –
