Kidum feat Lady Jay Dee – Nitafanya

We posted this song in May of this year, and the song has been doing great number sin the radio and clubs. Enjoy!!!!

Cartel feat Alfayo & Kumi Kumi – Katenga B’Nice

Another video from Cartel. Cartel is definitely on my XXL top 10 Freshmen of 2010.

Alicom feat KGT – Am in Luv (GetMziki Quick Hits **)

We’ve had this feature on GetMziki for years but we never really took advantage of it. Quick hits is a feature we started to allow us the ability to post songs from artists we really didnt have any information on and features that we didnt really have a quick good opinion on.

Over the last few weeks we have recieved so much music that its probably more viable now than it was a year ago. This little notice should serve as a disclaimer and a notice for the next few posts that we will update without too much commentary and or opinion on the songs.

To start the QUICK HITS feature – lets drop this brand new Alicom feat KGT. Alicom is a Bongo Flava artist popularly/famous for his Bongo track called Selina. Alicom has been singing for a long time, but the teaming up with KGT should be something interesting to watch out for. Taking into consideration KGT is the producer behind the popular Bongo flava tracks – Cinderella (Ali Kiba), Mac Muga – Nakshi Nakshi Mrembo (Ali Kiba)… its going to be a crazy summer.

STL – Favorite (Get Mziki Exclusive)

Stella Mwangi A.K.A STL just released this video last week and it was only right to showcase the song. We here at GetMziki are always elated when we get fresh new material from her since she embodies the whole “think out of the box” persona with her music. She’s a Kenyan artists but does worldwide music and rarely goes for the traditional East African sound, which is something I really admire.

She also just won the 2010 Chaguo la Teeniez award for best Teeniez’ Female Artist and she’s one of the few Kenyan based international artists that usually gets nominated in various awards which really speaks volumes on her music and management team.

If you haven’t listened to STL debut album, you are sleeping out on good music from the best all rounded female artist to emerge in Kenya. How many artists can go from “Take it back” with Michelle (Big shoutouts to Michelle) to “Makelele” to “She want it” then to “Biacara”. For everybody out there go listen to “Kool Girls” and you will understand what I’m talking about. One thing that people out there don’t know is she can spit crazy!!!. I got to hang out with her during the Mau Forest Green belt movement press tour last year in Kenya and she can definitely hold her own on any type of track.

To sum it all up, just read the following excerpt from from Leo when he showcased her anthem “She got it“.

“I love STL for two main reasons, she has never tried to do the whole Genge, Kapuka thing – it wasn’t her thing so she didnt even try to get into it. Secondly, she recognizes her talent and takes up the challenge to compete in the western market seriously.”.

On this new club banger song which STL describes as her new “warm up street single, she combines some hip hop elements and the whole “jerk” culture for an international street club anthem. Enjoy!!!!!

P-Unit Feat Nonini – Hapa Kule (GetMziki Exclusive)

I want to take this opportunity from the GetMziki team to wish everyone a festive holiday season and also to thank everyone for all the support in 2009.

We just got this track a couple of days ago and everyone has been busy with family, but it only right to showcase the track before the new year. On this song, I’ll let it breathe for itself since its straight fire!!!!!!. Like the streets say, IKO!!!!!

On this new track, “Hapa Kule” from their debut album “Wagenge Hao”, P-Unit comprising of Bonnie, Frasha and Gabu go hard on the Musyoka beat for a hot track that really perfectly closes out the successful 2009 year for both P-Unit and Nonini. They are a tight team that are always promoting and supporting each other, something you rarely see nowadays. One thing I also love about the group is that they are really humble and down to earth guys who love making timeless music that rarely follows any industry formula. They have also embraced the internet in a positive way (The “Hapa Kule” video debuted online the same day the song was released) and 2010 looks like the year that they show everyone out there that they a force to be reckoned with in the industry and that they are here to stay. The video is also hot!!! making this the next club anthem from the P-Unit camp.

Enjoy his track that is currently heavy on the streets radio and clubs.

BLK JKS – Molalatladi

BLK JKS  is a group from Johannesburg ,South Africa – They have there own style of music which sort of defies attempts to pigeonhole them – though for me they closely resemble and look like Black Uhuru in the early 80′s

BLK JKS have been touring extensively in the US and Europe and you can catch more info about them here and their blog.

Proffesor Jay – Hapo Sawa (GetMziki Special Edition)

Proffesor Jay

One of the few songs we posted when we started building this website was Hapo sawa, I know many people slept on that track because it was fairly new at the time and we had the remix instead of the main track. The original track was produced by Mandugu Digital (Ambrose). I actually think that was one of their first collaborations. To hear the bounce beat on a Tanzanian artists was a little scary, we didnt know what to expect – but today at least one new track coming out of Tanzania is produced by Mandugu.

Needless to say I thought I would post the original song to compare the two versions, both are fairly old but still relevant tracks today.

“ilinifanikiwe nahitaji marafiki, ilinifanikiwe zaidi nahitaji maadui” That line kills me all the time…

Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau – Angalia Saa (GetMziki Special Edition)

Seriously i couldn’t get any images off the web for Ukoo fulani thats kinda pathetic and sad. Maybe they have a myspace but as far as I can tell I cant find one. Today am on a mission to post all these classic hits that cant be found anywhere on the web. I will place them on this side widget so that they don’t interfere with your daily hits.

That said – I posted Mizani a while back but knew I should have posted Angalia Saa also. This was the shit when it came out, the East African market slept on this track. For a long time I thought SEAMUS (from pentamony) blessed the hook but looks like my assumptions were wrong.

The reason I think its important to post this today is because I just saw the video and its killer, it wouldnt make sense that I share the video without the track so here goes …

Mziki – Kaz (GetMziki Special Edition)

karen-_kaz_-lucas

Honestly I am posting this song because Kaz is a good friend of mines and I’ve always had a secret crush on her. I had this song on my Odeo podcast for years but people slept on it, so I am reposting it here because there is a larger more appreciating audience here (Thank you for visiting GetMziki).

Kaz better known as Karen Lucas is not only sexy, hot or pretty – the fact is she can blow (sing her heart out). She was part of the South African project fame thing together with my other homeboy Didge. I really feel saddened when I look at what folks did with the artists off that whole initiative. But thats not something within my control right now. I personally used to watch Kaz at Intercontinental as she hosted the Karaoke. She would burst out into like a Whitney Houston – leaving me looking behind the speakers to see if they have hidden some other chile.

She is a powerful singer and has the image to complement her music, in the past her image has been clouded by shady boyfriends and men who wanted to damage her career – but am happy she has stood tall and continues to stand tall. Keep making that good music… Mziki is my best song over the last 5 years am sorry Kaz – it is what it is, so I will keep spreading the love with this one song, until you record something new. I think TIM (innovator) produced this track (Tim used to work at Samawati productions and is one of the people who pushed Bamboo’s music in the past).

I am also posting this song because its titled Mziki – for GetMziki (lol how cheezy is that)

BABLEE – Sous Les Cocotiers

2008 was big year for coupe decale, and Sous Les Cocotiers
was one of those tracks that was a huge underground phenomenon. I think this tracks itself speaks of how africans are revolutionizing electronic music.

Dynamiq – Umegeuka

More heat from Sudanese-Kenyan raised DYNAMIQ who is currently working on his new album titled SUDANESE CHILD. Dynamiq still tours with the SHASHAMANE sounds international.

Please listen to this song and the previous one posted and give us some of your feedback.

Dynamiq – Send your love

A lot of DJs have been telling me to sample and listen to this cat called DYNAMIQ – I admit its taken me a while to get to him and to even sample most of his music. I am still trying to place my finger on his style – dancehall, reggae or lovers rock – I am not sure where to place these types of tunes.

Ill need more time to digest these tracks I have, but that doesn’t change the fact that DYNAMIQ is making moves slowly in the US and is becoming somewhat of a phenomenon. Born in Juba Sudan, third born of 7 kids real name Kennedy O Lorya his family fled the Sudan and moved to Nairobi Kenya while he was still young. He grew up in Kawangware in Nairobi which is not one of the easiest places to grow up in…

Let me put his music out there before I voice my opinions… I will post two different songs so that you can get a better idea of his style and music genre
