Mya Baganda – Say No (***GetMziki Exclusive)
Mya Buganda (in the middle of the pic) is a member of the group Blu 3 (Black Ladies from Uganda 3) that also features Jackie Chandiru and Lillian Mbabazi. The ladies have all been pursuing solo carriers as can be seen by Jackie Chandiru current hits Gold Digger and Overdose that are packing dance floors across E.Africa. I have been saying this for a while but Ugandan music is on the rise as far as churning out hits, that are crossing over worldwide.
“Say No” is Mya’s official first single from her debut album that will be released this year. I’m not really so sure the angle her management team is rocking by picking the name Mya, but time will tell on the name choice. M. Baganda is staying in line with what her fans are used to in terms of her brand of music. She’s also definitely on her way to capture new listeners unfamiliar with her style, sound and accent.
For now rock to “Say No”

Q-Bloods – I’m a warrior ft Chibildo
This is a new group from Nakuru, mainly high school kids, their produce is a guy called mtu panya, also out of Nakuru. I met them a few months ago when sir prestige was visiting. Not much i can say except they got a bright future ahead of them. Track is okay, potential is greater. Q-bloods – I am a warrior by getmziki
Jeraw – Live it up
I’m not one to make predictions about music, but if i can be allowed i would predict jeraw is going to be the biggest music phenomenons in Kenya 2012. reason for this is because this guy is the true triple threat writer, producer and rapper. He’s flow is sick moving between english and swahili seamlessly and subject matter is tight, im not saying this guys sings some serious(boring) topics, more like he talks about daily life in a n interesting way.
I posted Jeraws first song Tujinice, here which didn’t get much comments but from the logs i can see it was heavily downloaded and just recently started getting some airplay. Live it up actually has been n radio.

Stan – Kenyan Debut

This is a selfish post – obviously I listen to a lot of African/Kenyan Soul music. I think I can actually say I pioneered the word AFROSOUL LOL… am just kidding but truthfully I have supported a lot of young singing artists who wanted to cross over to R&B with an African twist. So its not unusual that I listen to Stan or Didge over and over again.
Today I woke up listening to Stans Debut album – it dropped a while back, Wawesh was behind the entire project and shit was real good back then. I dont know where STAN is today or if he has any new music. But for today, and just for today lets appreciate this cat for what he brought to us back in 2008. Some of these tracks we have posted them here before.
- Rollacoast – Track
- Gachugwa – Track

P-Unit Feat Sauti Sol – Gentleman
In the current music industry, collabos are key to penetrating some markets and different fan bases. However some collabos seemed forced and it’s not too many collabos that breathe freshness. One of the collabos that I’ve been riding to that breathe’s freshness is “Gentleman” by P-unit Feat Sauti Sol. I can honestly say the pairing on this track works perfectly. P-Unit exhibits an impressively smooth and lyrical flow and delivery, which perfectly merges with the beat. Production on the track was done by producer extradionare Robert Kimanzi aka R Kay who has produced tons of hits for East African Artists.
The first time I heard the track, I knew that “Nipate baby kwenye bar, uliza shorty what u drinking” will be a common line that most guys will soon be using. With this track, P-Unit proves that they can shift gears from working solo to collabos but still maintain a feeling of ownership throughout any project.
Enjoy!!!

Prezzo Feat Ulopa – 4Sho, 4Shizzy
We’ve had this track for a while, but now just getting to post it. I got an email from a Dj asking for the track and realised we hadn’t really posted “4Sho, 4Shizzy”.
I really do not have a personal opinion of the track. I’ve listened to it and I don’t really love or hate it. If you’re looking for Prezoo to hit you up with some crazy punchlines, then you’ll still be waiting. However if you wanna bump to some music while heading to the clubs, then “4Sho, 4Shizzy” can easily find itself on your play list.
All said and done, Prezzo is an entertainer that has the strength to take a break from the music industry, come back and still make people intrested in his music. You have to respect that!!!

We have featured Syd on getmziki with clande and Uta do. Here is how Syd descried the track when he sent it to us
“My latest single after the song Clande (Mandugu Digital) ….It is a song that is dedicated to all the Single mothers that struggle and sacrifice to give their children the best that they can. From the Ogopa Djs studios, the song features Wyre the Lovechild”

Atumpan – The Thing ft Stone
Atumpan, is a a Ghanaian HipLife artist, before hearing this song i had never really heard of him. I odnt think i need to write much about this but let it speak for itself, i think its about to be on heavy rotation if its not already on heavy rotation. Its got everything Africans like, a killer hook and melody to go with it someting that Nigerians seem to have perfected.

Jeraw- Tujinice
Jeraw – mark that name, because i think this guy got it, he seems to have figured out the perfect balance of flow, language and the beats to match he’s style. What do you all think ?

Octopizzo – On Top

I’m in that music zone where I’m really into tracks that showcase lyrical ability and clever wordplay. For one reason or another, I’m not really felling most of the new music coming out. Everyone once in a while for one reason or another, I get into this zone of just bumpin to straight lyrical artists and none of that club music.
In January this year we posted the track “Kibera World Cup” from Octopizzo and named him as one of the artists to watch in 2011. The Getmziki crew is always out there looking for artists on the rise and grinding to perfect their craft. It just reminds me of one of the artists mixtapes I’ve been listening to lately where he says in todays music world you have to be on a “griming” mode. This is where your grinding and timing are consistent. We’ve also been toiling with the idea of doing a “top 10 artist to watch feature” but with all that we have going on, the feature has been pending.
This track is not for everyone out there. If you are into club tracks with the same 100-120BPM dance tracks, then skip the post. However if you are into lyrical artists with great wordplay and punchlines, feast on this one. The first 16′s just did it for me.

K-Letta – Kata
If you watch TV enough, you know K-letta is the ‘voice’ of Bankika – KCB’s youth banking solution. That alone is a big statement that a local bank is using Hiphop expression to target the youth Market. K-letta has been in the game for a minute, if im not wrong he started off with Calif records then had a stint in the U.K. then returned to Kenya picking right up form where he left.
The following is a new joint from K-letta, listen and give feedback.

GBO – Sunrise To Sunset & Addict
I’ve done my own family wrong for not posting this track sooner than today. Noah Odongo is like my small brother, currently based in London studying for some highly complicated Engineering degree – I don’t even know how he finds time to make music or pursue his musical talents. So its no surprise as he wrapped up these two tracks and sent me numerous facebook messages about his excitement, I got overwhelmed with other 50K text messages, emails and facebook messages that I totally forgot to applaud his studio tracks.
It’s hard to criticize your family, coz where do you start. I am probably more hard on him than anyone else, so I will spare my meaningless rants on this post to allow the taste makers to ease into GBO aka Golden Boy Odongo. The only tit bit I will say is that GBO is not necessarily fresh to the rapping game but he is maturing, ive paid attention to his flow since he started rapping at 8yrs old (I know hard to believe but its the truth). So to me this is only going to get better and more sharpened.
GBO is cut from the same cloth with some of the cats that I admire in Kenya today – the Camp Mullas of this earth. All these new age kids, creating new age sounds, sorta went to some high end schools (Hillcrest). But its as if this didnt really dictate who or what they will become in the entertainment game and it shouldnt. Be blessed – I introduce you to my little man – GBO!!!

Bracket Feat WizKid – Girl (GetMziki Exclusive*****)

Bracket just released their new album “Cupid Stories” last week. I got to sample the whole album and I was not really impressed. Most of the sounds and song themes lean towards recycled “Yori Yori” and “No time” beats. I’m sure we will have a couple of hit records on the album, since the die hard Bracket fans will be bumping to thier music. However, the musical growth of the group is not really evident on this album.
The album features MI, 2face, WizKid, Banky W and Flavour (of the Ashawo fame, which is currently the most over played song in African parties). I decided to showcase “Girl” which features WizKid, since it’s the current single Bracket is pushing and also to introduce WizKid to the music enthusiastics out there. Why lie, having Wizkid on the track made it sound way better than the other collabos on the album.
Enjoy!!!!

Collo feat Didge – Masupa (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Collo’s upcoming album will be classic album – so far am on track 4 and I cant seem to find a track that’s whack. He sent me this collabo a few weeks ago which was blessed with Didge (WHERE the hell is Didge man). Anyway for the moment it feels as though Collo could do no wrong. He’s been blessed with a baby girl this year as well so feels like blessings are upon him. This track has a feel good tune to it and for some reason ive been playing it for the last few days over and over again.
Roll it! Masupa kibao!

Kora feat Madtraxx – Fire Fever (GetMZiki Exclusive **)
I dont have much info on Kora other than the fact that he is an artist currently on the Red Republiks domain. This debut track from Red Studios seems to be a usual Madtraxx formula which is bound to work. Catchy repetitive tunes with flanky hooks. Kora delivers on the rhymes promise as expected bringing it all together practically. My review may seem bland to a few but to me am just saying that it’s a known typical formula that I’ve seen Madtraxx perfect. It’s not anything out of the ordinary. It is what Kenyans love – easy to remember and to sing along tunes.
One thing I like about Madtraxx and his team is the fact that they have a style that they are honing and its ultimately become their signature beat and theme. HIT after HIT. And that’s all that matters. After a few days you will be singing Fayah Fayah Fever, Fever – wacha this song ingiaz your system LOL
DJs enjoy instrumental attached…

JuaCali – Baba Yao (GetMziki Exclusive **)
I am so behind in posting music this year and honestly I only have myself to blame. I am trying my best to bring you all up to speed but currently we are suffering from a staffing issue. Two of our main contributors moved back to Kenya, making it twice difficult to update content. You’d think it would be a lot easier now lol.
That said lets keep the party moving, JuaCali sent us this banger a few months ago and its been out and making rounds since then. Personally I don’t think it speaks to any of the work JuaCali has put out over the years. I think the track is missing a punchline and an edge – JuaCali always delivers on the flow so I probably think the beat they picked for this track wasn’t ideal. But I will let you all be the judge… Baba Yao!!

Jackie Chandiru – Overdose and Gold Digger
I’ve receieved a couple of emails from various djs requesting Ugandan music, which is a rarity, since most requests are for Kenya, Tanzania or Naija music. Maybe some of the djs are gearing up for the celebrations for Uganda’s Independence Day in October. Either way, I decided to showcase some music from Jackie who is currently ruling the airwaves in Uganda.
Jackie Chandiru a.k.a Jackie is one of Uganda’s leading female R’n’B artists and vocalists. Jackie kicked off her musical career in 2004 after she emerged as one of the winners for the Coca Cola Pop stars. This led to formation of the Blu 3 which became one of the leading girl groups in Africa. In 2010 Blu 3 went on leave thus leading to the girls working on solo projects.(Courtesty Reverbnation)
Jackie has been churing out hits as a solo artist and she’s one of the females who’s ruling dancefloors in East Africa. You’ve most likely bumped to her music either on the radio or at parties but either way, her music is slowly but surely catching on to the rest of Africa. We’ve had all this tracks since late last year and I’ll catch some flack especially from my pal Dan Mixa if I tag them as exclusives since he’s been consistently playing this tracks on his sets from last year.
For all the djs out there requesting for some Ugandan music, some two new additions on your Serato for the next party. For everyone out there, enjoy and overdose on great Ugandan Music from Lugbara. Enjoy!!!!
