Radio and Weasel – Heart Attack (GetMziki Exclusive)
Its Friday and I want get this track out that i just got this week since we’ve really been slow on the music updates, which will change as we are working out on some final website details. We have featured Radio and Weasel on the site before and you can check out this link for the previous posts. They are currently on tour in the US.
On this song I will copy some excerpt’s from the GetMziki team when we posted various tracks from the duo. Here is an excerpt from Leo when he posted the Zuena song. “I am almost compelled to say that Mozey and Weasle are going to give P-Square some true competition – Coz lets face it these cats can sing no matter how you look at it. I am really feeling this dancehall – reggae – upbeat patois (Uganda – or Luganda) uptake on music.
Here is what I had to say about thier music when I posted the Kuku track.
“Radio and Weasel are the “Gucci Manes ” of Ugandan music. It seems they are on everybody’s track. I also get new songs from them every other week and their music portfolio is just too huge to mention. I said before that they are the “group” in East Africa that will be ruling dance floors in a crazy way in 2010. I’m sure once promoters catch on to their music catalog, they will be the group that will be packing arenas and selling out shows across the continent”.
Enjoy this new track “Heart Attack”

Judith Babirye – Wanjagala
I get tons of “music related” emails everyday whether from artists or producers sending me music or djs requesting music. Most people are region biased when it comes to what they listen to or groove to which means they miss out on the great music coming from African continent.
One of the emails I got this week was from one of the djs aksing me what was hot in Uganda right now in terms of Gospel music, since he was going to dj at a wedding and he needed some Gospel dance floor packers. I sent him a couple of songs and on that note decided to showcase Judith Babirye. If you’ve never heard of Judith before, then its about time you start venturing out of you music comfort zone to listen to that great music out there.
Judith Babirye is a power house in Uganda gospel circles and her past hits include Nzijukira, Newaayo and Yesu Mulamu. She’s a big figure in Ugandan Gospel music just like Esther Wahome and Ruth Wamuyu are in the Kenyan Gospel scene. Here is one of her quotes when asked about her music. “I thank God who makes me sing music that touches people. Many of my fans shed tears of joy in churches after listening to my music. I feel blessed.”
” Wanjagala” is a great record that is a hit all across Uganda. ‘Lwaki Mukama Wanjagala…bino ebyensi abanji byebawanawana sibirirna…Sirina kalungi kona…naye Mukama Wanjagala’
Enjoy!!!!

Batabazi- Rise Up
I want to start off the post by sending a message of condolence from the GetMziki team to all the people who lost thier loved ones and for the loss of life in the Uganda bombings during the soccer world cup finals. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Ugandan people.
Various Ugandan artists have been releasing tribute songs and songs also talking about the incident. One of the groups Batabazi just released this song “RiseUp” talking about the incident. We have featured them on the site before with thier song “Dirty Shame” featuring Jackie of Blu 3.
“Rise Up” recorded in in Luganda and English, is a song encouraging all the Ugandan people to stay strong amidst all the things currently going on in the country.
Listen to the encouraging words on the track!!!!

Chameleon Feat Kelly Rowland, 2face, Samini, Krotal, Awadi, Rola, Jozi – Everywhere You Go (GetMziki Exclusive)
With only 44 days to go before the start of the 2010 world cup in SA, tons of artists and companies are releasing various songs and commercials to showcase the event considering its gonna be a month long soccer madness showcase. One of the companies, MTN just released this World Cup song “Everywhere You Go” by Dr. Chameleon featuring an all star cast from across Africa and the US. The cast is Kelly Rowland from the US, Nigeria’s 2face Idibia, Ghana’s Samini, Cameroon’s Krotal, Senegal’s Awadi, Rola, South Africa’s Jozi, Zuluboy, and Kwesta, Slikour.
The song is a fusion of modern day R & B that is featured on the first part of the song while the second part incorporates traditional reggae-tone kicks and snares. My own personal opinion of the track is that they tried to have a “best of both worlds” track that resulted in a song that you would hear on your favorite urban radio show. I believe the song would have been great if they had incorporated some African sounds and vibe to it, considering that tons of African artists were going to jump on the track.
Enjoy!!!!!

Batabazi feat Jackie (Blu 3) – Dirty Shame
BATABAZI started making music in 2007. They are based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The name was chosen because the members wanted something to symbolize who they are as individuals. The word “Batabazi” is derived from a Luganda phrase “okutabaala” which means to wander or move from place to place. Batabazi’s roots are hip hop but are very versatile given the dynamics of the group and have recently done music in R&B, Reggae and Afro-Beats.
Batabazi has gone through some changes with some of the original members moving on to other opportunities. The group is comprised of five individuals i.e. four stage performers and a producer. They are PG (Mpagi Kironde), Jerome Black (Jerome Jjooga), Tasha (Roseann Kawesa), Gera (Gera Kiwanuka) and Mayor (Anthony Bbosa Balagadde). PG & Jerome Black are two of the founding members of the group, which started as an underground rap group. PG raps in English, Luganda and occasionally does Patwah, Jerome is a lugaflow specialist. Tasha, Gera & Mayor joined Batabazi a little later. Tasha and Gera are primarily singers and occasionally will rap. Mayor is an upcoming producer with a rich musical background in piano and traditional instruments, and in the past has had the opportunity to perform at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York. He is Batabazi’s producer.
Batabazi is yet to release an album; however in 2009 they released a mix tape that was 20 tracks deep. The mix tape included their hit tracks “Turn it Up”, “Uganda Nka” and “Binsobedde” a song they did with Chagga, a Ugandan artist. They have recently done collaborations with other Ugandan artists i.e. Peter Miles, Blu3, Ragga Dee, Vamposs, Navio and Raba Daba. “Cheater” is a hit song they did with Peter Miles. Another of their recently released songs is Dirty Shame (feat Jackie of Blu3), a song that made is making waves on Ugandan music charts. Other recently released songs are the club bangers Buuka and Tukomyewo. They have also remixed their hit anthem “Uganda Nka” that includes Ugandan artists Navio, Raba Daba and Ragga Dee.

Swangz Ave Feat All Stars- Mr DJ

Let me start by saying that this track is a Ugandan big hit from last year that features a who is who in Ugandan musical talent. The all star cast is Radio & Weasel , Rabadaba, Peter Miles, KS Alpha, GNL Zamba, Navio, Viboyo, Caesar and Benon.
We’ve had this track since mid last year and its not until last week that my main street connect Dan Mixa told me that that this song was voted one of the top 10 tracks in Uganda in 2009. Let me say that Ugandan music is alive and kicking and I can clearly see 2010 being the year that they penetrate into the African market like the Naija music.
We have tons of Ugandan music and we are slowly going through the songs to start showcasing most of them. One thing I’m gonna do is put a rubber stamp of approval on the duo of Radio & Weasel. Once everybody else “catches” on to their movement, its going to be a frenzy. Like always, don’t forget where you first heard it.

Aziz Azion Feat GNL – Nakupenda (GetMziki Exclusive)

My Uganda connect send me a bunch of Uganda songs and I’m slowly listening and shifting through the music. One of the songs that immediately caught my ear is this song “nakupenda” by Aziz Azion. We have been slowly but surely been featuring music from Uganda on the site, so this is one of the additions. Aziz Azion is a household name in Uganda and most of hist tracks are know for their signature guitar tunes. He’s a monster on the guitar and started off by playing guitar for some of the biggest Uganda bands.
Since we haven’t featured Aziz here before I’m going to showcase two of his songs. The exclusive new track “Nakupenda” is one of those feel good tracks that GNL drops a couple of 16′s for a crazy collabo. The second track is “Nkumila Omukwano” that was released early this year and is one of Aziz’s biggest songs to date. I had sent out this song to a couple of djs a while back and the response was that the song was a keeper. I wanna know what people out here think of Aziz. Enjoy!!!

Juma Nature Feat Jose Chameleon – Mikiki Mikiki (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

Normally Dona posts all the Bongo Flava which is kinda contradicting of our publishing expertise because I am the one from TZ and Dona from Kenya – but he seems to have a better ear for Tanzanian hits than I do, so he has been responsible for 90% of the Bongo hits on this website. However when he posted Mikiki Mikiki I told him I want to ride this one and shine with it because I felt like he wouldn’t do enough justice for this crazy beat.
Also more importantly just for the sheer fact that I saw my man P-Funk all up on this video, I was super/extremely excited. Its always nice to see your old crew still holding it down and making good music. P-Funk is one of my long time friends and has been holding down the whole Wanaume Halisi family (which coinsidentally as I understand split into two groups – So I guess there is a splinter group lead by Chege and crew and the original Wanaume Halisi group lead by Juma Nature who put this whole TMK crew together).
If you have been an avid Bongo Flava follower you will notice Juma Nature has a signature singing/rhyming style thats unique to him only. I personally call him the Lil wayne of Africa – because he sings his rhymes and cries on his songs. P-Funk as a producer I think understands the Tanzanian market and understand Juma Natures capabilities. So whenever these two go into a studio, its magical. This song is one of those songs that will get anyone off their seats and just jumping and bumping to the beat. Its a classic Bongo Flava beat thats upiddy and happy. For a minute there I thought East African music was lost and gone – after listening to all these Urban based tunes and instruments in tracks… But thank God we still have some elements of Benga/Zouk/Bongo left in some producers hands.
To hear Chameleon on the track also was like whoa!! I cant say enough about this track –

H.B Toxic – Mwagala (GetMziki Exclusive)
Since we dubbed this week Uganda week, it’s only fitting to showcase HB Toxic. The group comprises two former members of the Obsessions dance group, Hellen and Brenda, thus the name H.B. I really did not know who they were until sometime last year when my main street connect “Mixa” sent me their hit single “All I need” with AY and told me that that song was jumping off in tha streets and clubs.
On reading up on them, I found out that they were two former members of the popular group “Obsessions” and that their strategy to come up in the music industry, was with their raunchy dressing and wild dancing styles so as to separate themselves from the other Uganda lady groups out there.
One thing I know for sure is that they have a good management team which has seen them bag all sorts of collabos with various artists from AY, Chameleon and Mega Dee plus making sure they have shows all over the world. They will be touring the US in July alongside Jose Chameleon, so people can get a chance to see them perform live. This is a 2009 song that they just released. Right now, is it simply their beauty and sex appeal, that is making them get all the shine or is it their talent???. Enjoy the song!!!!!.

Mozey Radio & Weasle Manizle – Zuena

No one on the Internet seems to get the spelling or the artists names of these two correct, I doubt if I will be able to do justice to them but I am sure their music will speak for them. Funny enough DJ Dona just posted a track that features Weasle so I guess it will be Uganda week up in here.
This track has been out for a while, there are two or three different versions of which I am not sure which one was the key album track but the second variation (which I have attached) seems to be a remix off the P-Square (one like you). Both versions are sick – I am almost compelled to say that Mozey and Weasle are going to give P-Square some true competition – Coz lets face it these cats can sing no matter how you look at it. I am really feeling this dancehall – reggae – upbeat patois (Uganda – or Luganda) uptake on music. Its a whole new level of flava. Ugandans have embraced swahili in such a big way. Its such a super formula to make sure all their music penetrates the 3 markets in the region (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda).
Ill keep my ears open for more from this duo, so far am loving every tune they have – I will share more tracks as the weeks go by. Enjoy!

Blu 3 Feat Radio and Weasel – Where U R

We haven’t featured many Uganda tracks on GetMziki and in the next few weeks we will start showcasing some of the music from Uganda making the rounds on the radio, TV or the streets (On a side note: I hope the “Migingo Island” situation can be resolved quickly before things get out of hand).
Blu 3 is probalably one of the best girls singing group from Uganda (The Uganda media refers to them as the “Uganda Destiny Child” ) and although they have gone through a series of “changes” in thier line up, they are still giving thier fans good quality music. They were also recently named the goodwill ambassadors for the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), where they talk about and shed light on human trafficking.
On this song they enlisted the help of Radio and Weasel who are best known for thier smash single “Zuena” for a great collabo. Enjoy!!!!!!

K-Nel Feat Bamboo- Obama Swagger

After the victory by Obama last year and the song “Swagger Like Us” by T.I driving the streets crazy at that time, I thought of a way of flipping the script to reflect that historic win. I immediately thought of the basic idea , ran it through a couple of artists, and the ones that came through first were K-Nel and Bamboo. They jumped in the studio to give their take on the 2008 elections “swagger” year and the result is a winner. Immediately the “Obama Swagger” song premiered on Homeboyz radio, the calls and comments coming from various sources was that the song had held it’s own weight as compared to the original version. This is one of those street songs that capture your everyday life and meant for everyone since we all got some type of “swagger” in us. Also, Bamboo is in talks to sign to K-Nels Stars limit roster. Mangwair Feat Chidi Benz- Speed I20(Get Mziki Exclusive)

Albert Mangwair aka Mangwea, Mangwair, Ngwea or Ngwair has been featured on Getmziki before (Click here), so I will just go straight to the songs “Speed 1-20 and “Nipe Deal” / “Nipe Dili”. I’m sure all my Bongo fans will be happy with this post.
I had started writing the post for the “Nipe Deal” song when my Tanzanian contacts emailed me the “Speed 120″ song which I have been trying to find a good copy for a few weeks now. The song is currently a street anthem in TZ and slowly bubbling to the charts. On “Speed 120″, he enlists the help of Chidi Benz (One of my favourite artists In TZ right now ) for a perfect blend and collabo. “Nipe deal” is a song that has been bubbling on the underground for a minute and its now spreading like world fire. Mangwair just recently wrapped up shooting the videos for the songs, which should take the songs to higher heights. I know I will be adding “speed 120″ on my serato and rocking it at my shows.

Brand New: Cindy feat P-Square – You Me

Cindy Sanyu was the cake of Blu 3 (the popular pop stars group from Uganda). The reason I say she was the cake apparently she was the sexiest of the crew I am not sure why but that was the word on the streets. Personally I had my eyes on the other thick (thunder thighs) Blu 3 chic am not sure what her name was. Needless to say this is Cindy’s solo project and she had to go get the best of the best – P-Square.
Currently P-Square is asking for 50,000 USD to pull of a show in Africa and in the US. Based on how African (Kenyan) promoters do business in the US, you can continue holding you breath because there is no way anyone here is going to come up with that cash. Sounds hard to believe but thats what my sources say.
Blu 3 have been known to do plenty of big things, I think many Ugandas are like Luo’s – they tend to want to do big things – look at Chameleon, Bobby Wyne and the likes… So its not anything our of the ordinary to see Cindy pull off a big collaboration such as this one. However sources also tell me that those P-Square Naijas are really cool peeps. They seem to have embraced working with virtually any artists from the African region so it might be a good thing for them in the long run. Their brand has been expanding exponentially over the last few months. So big ups to anyone in the pipeline to get blessed with a P-Square collaboration.
Here is the interesting joint…

TID – “Siwezi” (GetMziki Exclusive)

Its 2009 and my promise to everyone is to world premier some Bongo flava music every couple of weeks. The first exclusive is “Siwezi” by TID from his upcoming album “Prison Voice”. A lot of my Bongo fans have been hitting me up for this track for a couple of weeks now and I’m sure my inbox will take a “breather” for a few days now.
After serving four months in jail on assault charges and being pardoned by the president In December, TID is hard at work in the studio crafting hits. The song first single “Siwezi” was released while he was in prison in November. TID’s music catalog is long too mention, but some of TID’s older songs I still bump today that show his longevity and artistic ability are “Watasema sana”, “Zeze” and “Siamini”.
On this post I’ll let the music speak for itself but I’m curious to see what people think of the track.
Enjoy and don’t forget where you first heard it!!!!!!

Brand New : Wahu feat Bobby Wine – Little things you do

So apparently there was a making the video challenge that MTV pushed to the East African Market (MTV Making the Video Challenge), MTV got some big producers from the US to rally up some local Producers and artists, come up with songs and music videos that are of certain quality. This happened throughout selected African countries, however in Kenya Wahu managed to ink the deal with Bobby Wine from Uganda to make this hit track called “Little Things You Do”
This is not typically Wahu’s style (Am so tempted to say Yahoo, or Woo hoo.. just shows how long i’ve been in this part of town and how TV has messed up my mind). I think this track will definitely grow on you if you give it the chance to. Bobby Wine definitely put it to a close… Its not one of those sure shot bangers, but it can grow on you.
personally its not one of those songs I would go crazy for like the UNA. Chini Chini, or Jana Kuliendaje… I am also not feeling her Sweet love song… but that’s just me. I think Wahu was best suited with the ” He is a Liar ” catchy hooks and snappy lyrical come backs to all guy songs… That’s when I used to like Wahu… Maybe Marriage makes you a softie.. Coz the songs Nameless is unleashing these days are also dodgy.. (I cant stand that Salari Song – I cant lie am still jamming his first album – especially coz there is a song about me in there “I am on Faya” ha ha ha)

Chameleon feat Dr. Alban – Work
Jose Chameleon is probably one of the biggest Ugandan sensations to date. Having personally met the guy, he is not necessarily one of the best people to be around in terms of attitude and charisma, but you cant take away the fact that as a performer he is one sick bastard.. (in a good way). Jose commands presence, he commands the crowds attention and often he will make an unforgettable impact.
A few years back while he performed in DUBAI (sorta conservative ambassador crowd-ish) he jumped on a table, took off his shirt… the diplomats were in awe. I mean he really gets into the music, which I think is something thats lacking from many of our other counter part artists in Kenya. That said…
This is one of my favorite songs where he collaborated with Dr. Alban (born in Nigeria lived in Sweden/ Reggae sensational artists a blast from the past type of artist) Dr. Alban has sold over 11 Million records and singles worldwide. He was sort of a big deal back in the day with hit tracks like No Coke, and Hello Africa (if anyone has any of these songs please hook me up). But the sheer fact that Chameleon thought of doing a collabo with such a respected, timeless artist just goes to show what kind of skill Jose commands. The end product is phenomenal to say the least but I give him mad respect for his work and for his continuous churning of hits after hits (I especially like the fact that he makes songs in Swahili to cross over the 3 borders).

I wanted to over compensate for the week by uploading some quick hits from back in the day that may not have been featured on the site for the past few months. Mwana Falsafa feat Chameleon – Bounce

Mwana FA, or Mwana Falsafa also known as Khamisi Mohammed or Binam – is one of those Tanzanian artists that has a long life cycle. He is a short, light skinned little reserved dude that commands presences whenever he is around people. Ive had the pleasure to hang around him a couple of times, which for most part he just kept me engaged with some intellectual thought provoking speech and conversations. He definitely is not your average local Tanzanian artists.
He is part of the East Coast Camp and together with Jose Chameleon from Uganda they managed to put together this compelling track produced by Mandugu Digital – the King and inventor of BOUNCE. A lot of people though bounce wouldn’t cross the regions nor penetrate the market after BAMBOO first commercialized the beat with Mandugu (also known as Ambrose). But Ambrose has managed to shut down critics that he is here to stay and he is willing to make beats across the region that will resonate with whichever culture and community.
This is one of the few attempts that brings together a Ugandan artist, a Tanzanian artists and a Kenyan production team… Brilliant!!!
