AY feat Lamyia & Romeo – Speak with ya Body (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
So a few months ago AY was in the West Coast touring and we briefly spoke over the phone. He made his trip here seem really modest and humble and soon after he called me from the airport to say goodbye. Its funny I was thinking back about 10yrs ago when artists would get the opportunity to come to the US, many would never go back. Today artists could careless about staying or being in the US. Artists are so comfortable running their careers back home, so much that they can fly to the US to collaborate on a track and then fly back home…
Here is a perfect example of what the future of African Urban Music holds for artists who can nurture strategic relationships with different Western Artists. Now I accept the fact that ROMEO hasn’t had a hit in years but it still doesn’t change the fact that he is not one of the most accessible folks right now. There are other D or C listers you’d have a harder time getting to collaborate on a track or get clearances but I am just fascinated at how AY pulled this off. I am more fascinated at the fact that he stayed true to his Tanzanian roots and killed his verse in SWAHILI.
If you ever got to see the original pictures of this music video shoot, you will have noticed that Megan Good was somewhere on the production set. That’s because Lamyia is Megan goods sister so sis was somewhere around supporting family. The track was produced by Riley from Checkmate and the video done by the Outliers, Directed by Shai and William Tikki.

AY Feat Mwana FA and Hard Mad- Dakika Moja
We featured the banger “Usije Mjini” with AY and Mwana FA a few months ago and we have been blessed with this new track “Dakika Moja” from the duo.
One thing I like about AY and Mwana FA is that they “merge” perfectly on thier collabos, creating tracks that really bring out the best in them. Collabos are great in that they widen everyones fan base and they also bring out that creativity in the artists involved. Some artists on collabos just “weaken” the track, but the Bongo duo of AY and MwanaFA have found a formula that are making them create great hits!!!. On this track they also enlist Hard Mad to tell thier story. All I I can say is can we get an EP from the duo.
On “Dakika Moja” which was produced by B’Hitz Production which is owned by Hermy B, the trio are requesting to only have one minute, to let everyone out there know what they have to say. Enjoy!!!!

Nonini and AY GetMziki Video Showcase
![]()
We strive to showcase various artists and songs across Africa, but on the same token we also ensure that we “don’t” showcase tons of an artists songs since we also need people to go out there and support the artists and buying thier records. We also post songs that either did not have videos when we showcased them but the videos are currently now out and what better way than to include the link to the original post and the current video.
This week’s Video showcase is from Nonini and AY.
We showcased Nonini’s “Genge Love” in March (Click here for the Post) and he finally just released the video yesterday. I’m really feelin this video which adds more flavour and punch to the track. You can get Nonini’s album here . Enjoy!!!
The Second video is AY’s with the club banger “Kings and Queens”. We just featured AY a couple of weeks ago with the street anthem track “Usije Mjini” so on this track, we’ll just feature the video. The video for Kings and Queens was directed by Ogopa Djs. Enjoy!!!

This post comes at the right time since Ambwene Yessaya a.k.a AY is currently on his US tour. He just dropped a new single titled “Leo” that was produced by Hermy B at the B.Hitz Studios in Dar-es-salaam. Word on the streets is that the video which is being edited by Ogopa DJ’s should be available in the next few weeks. On this song, AY went for the the auto tune and the results are really impressive. A comment left on one of the Bongo blogs summarizes the song: “Ebwana big up sana AY, Ngoma imeenda shule ile mbaya”.
I’m really eager to see what people think of this song.

Brand New Music: AY feat P-Square – Freeze
I’ve talked about AY on this site over and over again so I will try not to get into it as much, other than the fact that those t-shirts seem to have been tupwad nyara nyara nyaya!!! coz every East African artists is flaunting one. First was Jua Cali, then Nonini, now AY and I have seen Mwana FA with one too.
AY has always been big on big collaborations, big songs, big hits, big things. He is sort of a visionary, he seeks the closest opportunity to become a bigger or better star. He has done collabos with almost any local Big East African artist you can think of… however to date my favorite song from AY has to be a Steve Jean produced Yule. All around that was just a hit song..
This new song called Freeze is no exception, A.Y teamed up with the biggest name in African hiphop/R&B right now – P-Squared. Coincidentally anyone hoping to book P-Square for a show in the US, you gotta wait till about April 2009. The guys are totally booked and rumor has it a show goes for about 10,000 USD (so much for the guys who were complaining about a 3,000USD Ali Kiba show). P-Square is the most sought after African pop group whom I think deserve every little bit of attention they get… I mean the brothers are good, multi talented, well packaged and most of all, they are very open and willing to work with the rest of Africa… Thats something you have to admire.

Here is AY’s track with P-Square (personally I think the Klepto and Ulopa hands down smashes this song, but thats just my opinion)
