I am probably going to be in trouble for posting this song here – but F*&k it this is a CRAZY joint needs to be loved. I had a previous version of the same track but the quality was pathetic so there was no need to post it up here. However when this CDQ landed on my laps – I knew I had to push it regardless of a few minor details here and there.
So here are the facts – Track is produced by ULOPA NGOMA, blessed by the one and only Collo (King wa rap) from Kleptomaniacs. I am still trying to figure out who blessed the hook/vocals coz that cat is off the chains. But honestly this song is FIRE – it doesn’t matter how many ways you dissect it and digest it. This is a banger in more ways than one. Ulopa is on fire – the arrangement of this track sits very well with the crazy new sound coming from the East Coast in the US currently. The drums the beat maps. All so familiar sound, once you add a little genge/sheng and English its just a classic.
I will spare you with my praises please put your headphones on if you are listening to this at work – play it loud. Collo you did it again on this one. Big ups. Big ups to all the cats at Msanii Records also…

Madtraxx – Get Down (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
We’ve been holding this song for a few months now at the request at Madtraxx and his team while they work to complete the video. It looks like the video just dropped last night so we are able to release this crazy banger. Through this genius work its evident that Madtraxx is growing as a producer, the instrumentation on the production seemingly has increased and in essence there is a level of keyboarding that stands out on this track compared to other tracks that he has produced in the past.
The first time I heard this banger I knew it will be a hit. I didn’t hide my enthusiasm as I emailed/texted Georgie to tell him what I thought. I still believe this will be a summer song in Kenya given proper airtime and proper exposure. The climax of this song can only be experience best through the crazy video produced by Luche (Clemo’s brother). Towards the end, Madtraxx yells out the different dance routines that are popular in Kenya, the video does enough justice of bringing this in and showing the current pop dance trends in the country. By far I think Mosquitoe is the most hilarious dancing style.

Abbas feat Eppy – Sun Will Shine (GetMziki Exclusive ****)
This is one of the most non-assuming tracks I’ve heard in a long time, although once you start putting Eppy into perspective you realize that he deserves every accolade that will be coming his way. AP or Eppy hails from Uganda and anyone who has been a keen follower of Ugandan Music will immediately realize that majority of their successful artists are dancehall inspired (or what I call lugmaffin – a fusion of luganda and raggamuffin). The top artists from the region, Chameleon, Ragga D, Bebe Cool, just to name a few are all raggamuffin/ dancehall inspired artists. With no exception to Eppy who has been nominated twice for Pearl Africa Awards and has won once. So to me this joint doesnt really come off as a surprise hit coz both artists are ontop of their game.
Doobiez delivers on this track as usual, its interesting to hear his lyrics/rhymes over reggae beats but I must admit I kinda enjoyed that change. Either way without giving too much away I will drop this beat and let y’all digest it.

Nonini – Kataa Hio (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
Nonini the Godfather of Genge has been working on his Sophomore album for the last few months however according to sources close to him – he hasn’t really been feeling the last few releases. If you recall we debuted KUMBUKA feat Lady Bee and KADHAA on the site a few months ago. I figure he anticipated that any one of these songs would have been bigger than Keroro or any of his previous songs. But to his dismay it seems as though they really haven’t given him the kind of traction he has been anticipating.
Personal note: NOTE TO SELF – to date I still think KERORO was one of Noninis biggest tracks EVER. Musyoka and Nonini in a studio for the first time and Keroro came out. It was so unexpected. Keroro was one of those songs you just have to accept, its vulgarity and audacity made it one of the biggest songs of all time. If i had to do a top all time ten urban tracks in Kenya – my number 2 or 3 would be Keroro.
So knowing Nonini and the perfectionist he is – he decided to drop this single last week to pony up more hype to his much anticipated album. Teaming up with Musyoka again – to see if they can reinvent the chemistry they once had. This Kwaito beat inspired, lyrically compelling track has Nonini reaching for the stars. Personally I don’t know if its bigger than Kumbuka, but thats just my own opinion – I think the day Nonini emailed me and told me about Kumbuka he knew I would never get passed that song 
including the video lol. But ill let y’all sample this goodness and let me know what you all think.
ps. Nonini how about getting a clean cut of Keroro and the instrumentals Mzeiya. Meanwhile anyone who wants the vocals and instrumentals of Kataa Hio – scream at me.

Ishike Radio Weekly Podcasts
Like I had promised, I will be showcasing a new mix every Monday in the month of October. A lot of people have been hitting me up requesting some songs on the mixes, so people might notice some “old” tracks in the track listing. In this era, where every body wants to be “Mr Exclusive”, I decided to go aganist the norm and include a “back in the day” track by Tony Nyadundo.
In the first mix, I showcase some songs that are driving the streets crazy like “Finje Finje” by Mr T (Kenya) and “Mtimanyongo” by Shaa Feat Langa(Tanzania). The second mix has a couple of requests, but I also showcase the gospel anthem “Niko Na reason” by Holy Dave and Eko Dida that is a straight club banger. After living in San Francisco for a few years I realised that one of the greatest baseball players Barry Bonds was forever going to be clouded in controversy. Little did I know that there was another Barry Bonds (spelled Bari Bonds) in Kenya who hails from Athi river (or what they call ATR). Bari Bonds is one of the rappers from PBH a hip hop group comprised of him, Samora and Cynosure (Tosh).
I got this track from one of their peoples a while back but I had no info on the group until last week. They seem to have Reverb Nation page which has most of their info, apart from that it seems like Bari is probably the more indexed member of the group as opposed to the rest of them. I kinda like this song, its subtle smooth and the type of track you will listen to in a car or at home on a mellow Sunday. Am not sure about the lyrical delivery, ive heard better but definitely one of this cats can spit.

Mpishi – Nenda Kesho (GetMziki Exclusive **)

Tony emailed me this jam a while back but I slept on it as I do with many other tracks I have to sit and listen to over and over again. I guess am learning that its not such a bad thing to admit that you are overwhelmed. But in this business or industry being overwhelmed is better than being underwhelmed. It just means that there is so much music out there that you really need to spend more time and effort to post or focus on the really good tunes.
Of the two tracks he sent me I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to showcase as his main single, especially considering Mpishi is struggling with school, work and music (his passion) it was hard to tell which one he spent more time producing. The second track on his list was “Tume Come Kudunda” which I didn’t really like – I felt it was too cliche, however this one am posting “Nenda Kesho” is worthy of some spins. Considering the man produces his own work and of course raps and flows on his own beats – I think its worth recognizing his efforts.
Tony tried to explain to me why the name Mpishi, but i got lost somewhere in that Food for the soul and nyama ya ulimi explanation he he he. Maybe nili hata but real talk I think you need to explain that to me one more time. Anyway if you attended the Dallas Memorial festivities you may have been blessed to see this cat on stage but if you didn’t, dont worry I am sure he will be getting on stage pretty soon. This is a humble beginning to a long career, if you stay focused and on track I am sure the material will get better.

GetMziki Face Off – Kayvo vs Daddy V : Nare
Kevin Ambalwa (a.k.a. Kayvo), is a 22 year old Kibera native who started rapping in high school. In 2005, he formed the group K-Force with Ndochez and Bobby Slick – Other than these three, there are other skilled recruits in the K-Force clique. Kayvo has been on the underground scene for a while, though over the recent past, he has featured on songs by Yunasi, Rabbit, Kama (of Kalamashaka), Judge, Didge, Wyre, Kleptomaniax, L-Ness, some members of Mau Mau and Stranger. As an artist, he has had the opportunity of working with people such as Ambrose Akwabi (Mandugu Digital), Tedd Josiah (formerly of Blu Zebra) and fast rising producers, Cecil Jamwa (BaseTown Productions) & Paul Manyasa (Musiq Plant Productions).
(Evidently above is a press release spill from Kevin and Cecil his production team).
However when Cecil sent me the track it only made sense to put it up against another track that apparently has been making noise in the US-Kenyan club scene. Nare is a slightly older song but Daddy V still loves it so I figured why not. Am not going to comment on any of these two tracks because this is a faceoff so I have to make sure its fare
So here goes… Two songs with the same title // Am not sure if this is fair judgement but here goes. And I also know that Kayvo’s song is definitely newer so I dont know how fair this faceoff will be but for added advantage I will throw in Daddy V’s video to balance of the oldness of the song.

Madtraxx – Big Shot (GetMziki Exclusive **)

We’ve covered MadTraxx on GetMziki over and over again, I think with all the tracks released over the last 3 years the kid is ready to compile an album. I think its unfortunate that most of these Kenyan artists are caught up in the whole Nameless singles phenomenon but maybe there is a strategy and I am just failing to see it at this point and time.
Honestly think about it, all Kenyan artists you have listened to over the last 8 months are singles, none of these artists actually has an album or has a plan to release an album. Unless someone wants to prove me different I am yet to see a Madtraxx, Mejja, Jimwat or Joint Ya Chava album. Am just being real. Am not saying its a bad strategy am just saying by the time the album gets here everyone has all the tracks they need. However on the flip side Nameless made millions going on tour and performing his tracks before he compiled his album. This allowed him to bank more on performance sales than Album sales (which i think went to Ogopa). So maybe its okay to have a string of singles that allow you to stand on stage – rant and rave.
I am conflicted about this song, it feels so cookie cutter. In a world where I have always raved about George’s (Madtraxx) ingenius tracks, catchy hooks and inventive dance routines – I feel like this is such a dupped formatted hit. It feels so Jango – so Walanguzi, so BigPin like.. Its bound to be a hit just because of the song format and composition but not because its exceptional. I am not sure what you guys think – so ill open it up.. The song is on heavy rotation right now on Kenyan radio stations… give it a listen.

Kama – Cant You See (GetMziki Exclusive *****)
There are days I get new music and I sit on the songs so that I can reserve initial judgement. Then there are days like today when Mandugu Digital hits me with a CLASSIC that I cant hold my mouse very long. Real TALK am sambazaing the song roho safi! This song is FIRE – I’ve always known Kama can spit (Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau). Especially after seeing him over and over again on Hip Hop Colony. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that Mike (the Director of HipHop colony) was up to some good when he hand picked Kama as one of the story tellers in the documentary, because lets face it – this man can spit.
If you are a strong HipHop head like me then you will appreciate this track as much as I am. The sample remind me of Primo (DJ Premier), it feels so New York, yet so Ukoo Fulani MauMau – It feels so gutter, it feels so street, it feels so – Kalamashaka – It feels so KAMA. It feels like real African Hiphop and its wicked. Ambrose big up on the track coz this is a killer sample, its just what reminded me of how much I used to enjoy those You Kay Double Oooo tracks (UK double O – UKOO).. (For the slow guys thats how Ukoo fulani pronounce their group name on their rhymes).
Anyway am just excited today coz its been a while since Ive heard a Powerful song like this one .. So GM fans enjoy –

Double Trouble – Linet, Raudy & Kendi, Mejja (GetMziki Calif Records Edition)
So here is the reality of this post, Ive been sitting or sleeping literary on a couple of tracks. Some of these tracks I honestly didn’t think were worthy of posting but after the videos popped up online I thought okay – well why not. So truth be told, I feel none of these two songs, but the Kendi and Meja VIDEO is hilarious. Someone needs to give this Mejja character a TV show or something. He reminds me of Ludacris with his hilarious videos and theatrics…Honestly the world is a much better place with Mejja in the game – he is currently my number on source of happiness when it comes to watching Kenyan music Videos. (Watch the beginning of that Mwanisema Video its hilarious). Actually I think the whole Clemo (Calif Records) stable just has some interesting well thought of videos. I love the fact that they are shot in the hood – they don’t try to be Westerncentric – their videos are often just real. (ps. What happend to that FLEXX cat Mr. Amejibeba?)
The second part of this post is this Linet and Raudy song. I know both songs are from Calif Records, but am just saying I wasn’t feeling them before I saw the videos. Anyway I think the chile in the Mwanisema video in the beginning is the same chic singing on this Linet song. I could be wrong but they look very similar. Calif Records seems to be incubating some new talent, all these new acts have been springing up from their stable – maybe its time for some new blood. Either way I thought now that the videos are out you guys might enjoy some of these blaa blaaa songs.
Although if I had to pick – I would go with the Kendi track, Kendi’s voice seems like it has much more potential than Linets voice.

Daddy V – Julieta (GetMziki Exclusive **)

We have never covered Daddy V on GetMziki, I believe the few instances we have mentioned his name here have had to do with his “apparent” conflict with DJ Pinye and other promoters. Unfortunately during this period of bad press (although to me there isn’t anything like bad press – I call it FREE publicity) we never really got to hear his side of the story (Nor Pinye’s for that matter). So to me this whole conflict was hear say. However one key fact remains constant – Daddy V is passionate about his music and has been doing this for a long time. I met him once in Dallas at a show we had together with Jua Cali. The promoters of the show had some slight difficulty with their equipment and set up – so the delivery was awefull. Daddy V was performing before Jua Cali and a local DJ was trying to rally up the crowd as the equipment was being fixed at the same time.
After the DJ set, Daddy V didnt hesitate, he jumped on stage grabbed the flawed mic and just started blazing – personally id never seen that before in my life. The last time I was at a concert with faulty equipment the artist left for his hotel, so to me this was crazy. V ripped it with his reggae sensationalized lyrics and tones leaving his fans in awe and screaming even if half the performance was already flawed. I stood next to JuaCali as he watched this and he too realized that he will have to give it his all regardless of the poor set up the promoters had set up for these artists. To date I think if V hadn’t gotten on that stage, probably JuaCali wouldnt have either… But thats not whats important here, whats important is that Daddy V has blessed us with some new material and we will release one at a time based on demand.

I’ll reserve my personal opinion about the track for now, I am yet to critic the track so ill wait for about 5 or more comments and then give my feedback.

Brand New: Bedsitter Lovers – Mr Tash (GetMziki Exclusive **)

Funny thing when Robert sent me this track I had no idea who he was, then his follow up email reiterated his other skills and capabilities which I am fond of but I have never been able to put a face to the work. Good work on the graphics bro! Little did I know that Robe is or has been working on an album – but the infamous graphics producer for people like DJ Styles, Fakii and other entertainers in Kenya has been holding back some of his hidden talent. I will assume this work was produced at the Red Room (CodeReds popular production studio).
On second thoughts bad assumption it seems like the credits on this track title Blak Vogue productions as the producers and possibly directors of the video. Either way the video is just okay its not a major uplifter – I personally like the beats on this track. The arrangement is interesting, a little more bass in the right places would put this track on a different level but none the less its a fulfilling instrumental. The lyrics are choppy, for a new artists id give Mr Tash a 5 or a 6 out of 10. The reason why is because his rap style is just different and I like humorous rhymes.
Robe tried explaining the moral of the track – he lost me somewhere on the line – but ill let you all listen to the goodness and make your own assumptions ..

Brand New: Marya feat Colonel Mustafa – Hey Baby (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

Lets get these pleasantries out of the way real quick – Mustafa your CHILE IS HOTTTTTTT!! with a capital T (As Mzee Tama would say in brackets capital T T). Wai wai wai – Truthfully the first 15 minutes of my day today was spent watching this video back to back, I really didn’t hear the song kabisaaa!! The thing is I actually watched or had seen her previous video Mahaba, but I think after this jam came out and I started feeling the jam – I fell in love with her.. excuse me.. I mean sorry.. I feel inlove with the song the song I meant the song.
I know with the way am talking am making her into a Halle Berry of sorts, but thats not the case really. All am saying is that its been a while since we have seen some eye candy on our youtube/screens that was singing well and also has the appearance to support the looks. No disrespect to any other artist in Kenya am just saying this chile right now for me takes the trophy for the whole of East Africa in terms of cakes… And thats just real talk. I mean look at the representatives on each coast – Ray C (TZ), Juliana (UG), Nakaya (TZ), Wahu (KE), …. Well actually K-Lynn from TZ is a cake hauuu uuu!! and then there is Kaz… hmmm okay let me sit this one out for a while while I look at my diary for clues.
What sucks about Marya is that she will always be known as Mustafas Boo, thats kinda whack coz she needs to be able to ride her own wave of success. I also think her brand name is a little off – MARY-A (her real name is Mary Maina), am not sure what the A stands for but I thought her name was Myra initially until I realized is MaryA -I dont know maybe thats just me. Lastly its Ogopa – Ogopa can make anyone a superstar with their beats, so I am yet to make a decent decision on whether I think she can sing or not. This particular track is off the chains – Gangsta loving right there, but I cant feel her vocal capabilities, to me it sounds like she is just talking and conversating with her peers.
The Mahaba song she release prior to this one was just okay I would give it a star – this one I give 3 stars for quality of beat, composition, collaboration, video quality and style) but more importantly to get her number he he he he… Mustafa hang on to this one coz she is bound to get hit on by 999 guys on an average week. GetMuzicians its time to harvest this track – what do you all think?

Brand New: Jangwa – Lyrical assassins Feat. Wenyeji and Shamir
I enjoy great relationships with the Lyrical Assassins crew – Calvo and crew sit on my gmail like neighbors and relatives in your digz. However I have no particular bias to their music, when they produce hot shit I tell them, when they produce whack shit I tell them some tracks make it on to the site and some just don’t. I respect our relationship because its based on honesty – and they understand my opinions are just my opinions. Sure enough they might influence a few people to react differently but essentially I normally have plenty of DJ’s call me out and tell me that I was wrong.
This track is HARDCORE – its titled Jangwa (Jungle) you get the essence of the jungle the forest kinda – the sounds in the background and some of the bottle shakers and other instruments are very distinctive. I know the song is a metaphor of sorts, because it talks about the real jungle – life! But playing around the African Jungle (Forest) animals and other elements that depict the continent is sheer genius. I am not sure if this is a track I will play everyday. Its a song I wont mind listening to and meditating on the lyrics (I guess thats why they call themselves Lyrical Assassins). The tracks features Wenyeji and Shamir – its an interesting collabo – I’ll let y’all be the judges.. enjoy!

Am kinda bummed that Dyme sent me this track like last week, considering its been making rounds on facebook and on other sites so to call it exclusive here would be an insult. (Sorry Dyme I had to call you out on this one). Meanwhile someone in Kenya stole Chava’s track “Wacha Kukata” and apparently remade the entire track, the video and everything just like Chava and crew did. When Chava called me about that track – I wasnt sure if I should be upset or glad that someone is actually bootlegging his music!
I think its a good thing when guys like your style so much they want to cop it.
Now on the flip side your whole K-Teezy, Vintiqueezy, Vyba movement is still hitting the right spots (so far). This track is on point, good production, good flow, good name dropping (nimezisikia he he he – thats a sure shot to get guys to push your track). Also after listening to the hook and listening to K-Teezy I have to school some folks here. A lot of people think that AutoTune and Vocoder are the same thing. Auto tune is a plug in made my Antares which is used for pitch correction (what K-Teezy’s voice and the hook has been infused by… actually I think probably the whole track has been chapwad Auto Tune.. correct me if I am wrong). A vocoder on the the other hand (without using Roger Troutman as an example) takes a signal plugged into a device (synthesizer) the signal goes through the microphone and is sent through a series of oscillators and filters which create the synthesizer sounds.
Anyway as far as I know no Kenyan has used Vocoder on any of their tracks all these tracks are on Autotune. Either way am waiting to see if Jay Z will really kill Autotune coz Africa’s got next on this production style. Nearly all the new tracks am listening to have some form of voice modification – overall its all good am not knocking anyones style – we will see how long this will last.

Syd vs Q-Tac : Clande vs Chips Funga (GetMziki Faceoff – Brand New Music ***)
The image I’ve created above and uploaded is not meant to belittle any women who read this blog – but rather to paint a vivid picture of the debauchery that has been going on in Kenya over the last few years when it comes to creating fresh new slang terms to explain certain times of people. From what I understand Chips Funga these days means a chile you pick up the first night at any night club or bar, and you kulungus (hit it off) on the same night. So she is a chips funga just like the Kenchic chips (fries) that you order to go.
On the flip a Clande is just a clande – Clande is actually from the word Clandestine (which is secrecy more or less a relationship you are having on the side). Kenya currently is a Clande infested country, I understand Nairobi is suffering from all sorts of Clande diseases – Imara Daima, South C, South B and Buru have become the new Clande havens for the heavy weights.
So we felt it only right to put these two big artists singing these two different classic tracks that are fresh off the studio and press – Syd who has his banging track titled CLANDE and Q Tac and his crazy track CHIPS FUNGA. The themes are similar but the songs are completely different so they cannot be compared to in terms of production and flow. However in terms of delivery and message execution I thought it would be nice to see which track would pony more votes. So without futher due –

Brand New: Jaguar – Nikusikize
Its unlike us to post two songs from the same artists back to back – but I have been underground for a few weeks so I am playing catch up. Strangely enough I have been looking at the Ogopa Youtube Channel lately and I am so impressed with the quality of music, the quality of the videos and the general direction the production house has taken. I particularly like the fact that Ogopa doesn’t try to do many things, they stick to what they are good at and do it well. If Ogopa was run by other people, they’d have a radio station, TV station, events company, beer company, and Biro pens and anything that could build the brand further and diversify their products – but NOOO Francis and Lucas Bikedo have managed to steer their company into Namibia building Ogopa Butterfly and churning out more hits than we can ever imagine.
Personally I respect that…
So a few weeks back when I got the Nikusikize track from Jaguar I knew it was an instant hit and definitely an Ogopa beat. There was no questions asked, I find this track more promising than the previous one I posted (Tayari). Maybe its the catchy hook or the repetitive hook style…

Brand New: Jaguar – Tayari (GetMziki Exclusive *)
Damn! I have been AWOL for a while – its been weeks since I’ve posted any song, I had some personal family business to attend to – but now that I am back I need to process this back log. I am glad the rest of the GM team managed to update the site and make sure stuff stays fresh. However not to brag – but I always got the fresh shit from Kenya & Naija:-) (ps. I am feeling that Zimboo stuff).
That said I have been sitting on this Jaguar song for a while now, the track is called kama uko tayari featuring some chile I am not sure who she is. Jaguar has been touring the US over the last few months, although I personally haven’t had the chance to sit and talk to him. I am not such a fan of this song but there has been some underground movement claiming that this song is the shit. The track sounds coast-ish… but I could be wrong. I listened to it a few times but am not really feeling it – I think Jaguar needs to switch his style up – its 2009. You need to come out with BANGERS…

Choku feat Rat-a-tat : Vitu Na Like (Leo Faya Exclusive ***)
Am going to do my first post ever in SHENG, I apologize before hand to our relatively large East African Audience in the diaspora and in their respective countries. I just feel like I won’t or can’t do enough justice to this track if I try to overly explain how I feel about it in english. I also have to exercise my descretion by clearly stating that this song is old – relatively old, its been out for a while – BUT darn it vile na ifeel sijui.
I have a disease, there are some songs I like and I just like period and those songs may not be hits or anything spectacular but they tend to resonate well in my mind and heart. This is one classic example, I think this song barely got any rotation, however this song has been featuring in my Genge playlist for so long that the moment I watched the video, I decided I will sambaza the love. (ps. I just saw the video today, hence the reason for this post in the first place)
But I like this song because I used to be jazzed by the whole Chocu Rat A Tat and the late Lady S movement or crew. Hawa ni ma dem wa mtaa, you gotta appreciate ma dem wa mtaa. I think there is something exotic with a chile telling you ” Maze nina ku feel!!” Si unigee namba yako niku vutie waya ma time… ha ha ha lol. Hoodfiggaz are more fun that main stream chiles. Personally I am so turned on by a chile who can vibe sheng! its such an ice breaker – can you imagine going to a US mall and then your chile burst out into a statement like “Ma ma ma hebu cheki hizo burungo ziko on sale” I dont know maybe its just me but thats how I feel when I listen to this track.

Brand New: Nazizi – Jeshi (GetMziki Exclusive ***)
I just got this track today and honestly I wasn’t sure if I should post it or wait until I get a better sense of the style and production. At GetMziki we have a habit of holding the songs, listening, sharing internally and then forming opinions based of initial comments. However I think this track is too hot to hold onto even for a week.
I am posting this song today more specifically because I want to demystify this whole patois movement in Kenya. Here is a good example of an artists who goes back and forth, yet when you talk to her or listen to her interviews she is just a regular Kenyan. This track has some elements of Dancehall, Genge, Kapuka as well as other familiar urban sounds. I dig this song in particular because of the lyrics.
The intro has Kenyatta (Killer on getting the clearance to that audio ) Second the whole metaphorical flow, bigging her JESHI or their JESHI. She practically bigs up every important artists in Kenya and rhymes with their title tracks in mind… For the slow ones here is an excerpt of her flow –

Musyoka has been hard at work lately considering his Shop – Decimal Media has quite abit of talent to work on, Musyoka produces for the whose who market in Kenya. Nikki, PUnit, Nameless, Klear Kut, Peter Miles, Ukoo Fulani the list would be too long to publish here. However he also works on exclusive deals such as this one – to my understanding he is working on Julianis album titled – Mtaa Mentality.
This track is the single off that album, although there have been other tracks flying around the airwaves and the internet. This here is the exclusive never heard before and only available (well for now – on GetMziki, which is why we put the Exclusive next to the track and our star rating system). Truthfully the first week I got the track I had to put it on heavy rotation and then let it chill for a few days. The reason I did this is to better understand where this GOSPEL music is going. I am increasingly getting disturbed. Its either I am having a hard time embracing this new genre or I am having a harder time accepting the fact that Gospel music can be funky.
Gospel music in Kenya to me seems to be a fad, I personally think its something new, something that seems to be generating some traction and revenue for a few people and therefore means many people can capitalize on this market. Honestly Ive never recieved or heard so much music in my life – Over the last 8 months I cant even remember the artists names. I mean just take a quick glance at Kenyan Gospel – http://www.kenyangospel.com/. And tell me what you think.
Anyway let me relax – This track is fire… Musyoka as usual doesn’t disappoint, but am so conflicted will I listen to this track in a club, with a heineken in my hand??? you know I compare these artists to the Kirk Franklin’s of the US… Although personally I adore and listen to the Marvin Sapp’s of this world, Marvin’s album is on heavy rotation on my ipod – but see Marvin Sapp is not anything you listen to and want to dance, its music you listen to and want to go to church… maybe am just a conflicted soul – Enjoy the track here

Brand New: Redsan – Yule Pale (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

I am yet to meet anyone in my life who is persistent and consistent with wanting to be a star such as Redsan. I think Redsan became a star simply because he felt, thought and treated himself as one. Way before Prezzo, Howee and the other flossin and dossin artists showed up. There was Redsan, not too many people can attest to his Stardom because not too many people could tell the difference. I mean Redsan had a body guard way before anyone knew what a personal body guard was. It doesnt even matter whether I think he needed one or not.
The second interesting fact about Redsan is his persistency (sp), one fine afternoon Redsan decided he would meet Shaggy and ask him to do a Collabo with him. Interestingly enough Shaggy was on Tour in the country, Red did all he could do to get Shaggy to listen to his music and also talk to him. To me its these types of character traits that make artists big. You cant be an artists who doesnt push his music. Recently I met JuaCali in the US selling his own CD’s and t-shirts (although I think the t-shirt move is lame, I personally wouldnt wear JuaCali’s face on my chest, but I can wear a brand he has created… Even Nonini needs to change that stuff – hizo ni ma brand mechanism za 1994 or for the 18yr olds.. Look at puff and 50 they sell tshirts that just say – Thisis50 or No bitch assness… Anyway am digressing). Moral of the story is Redsan is a hustla and I respect his hustle.
I however still have issues with all these patois singing Kenyan artist but as of today this is the BIGGEST song in the Kenyan countdowns so I have to respect it and give it the attention it deserves. Funny enough Dona sent this to me weeks ago – I slept on it… Coz to me its not really a big song its just okay.. I don’t know maybe lets open up the reviews and see what the people think.
