Kaz – Run Run Run (GetMziki Exclusive ***)

It’s no secret that GetMziki has been backing up Kaz for a few years now, its not really a big deal, it happened magically one day we discovered Kaz when she was hosting some Karaoke shows at the Intercontinental hotel in Nairobi. This was before the project fame successes and the album hits. Since then we knew that we would want to play a part in ensuring her music had legs wherever she went. Her Journeys can be found separately at www.kazmuzik.com – however Kaz has been busy wrapping up her sophomore album conveniently titled “The Naked Truth is…”

We have sampled at least half the album which includes tracks recorded in the US and Kenya mastered and produced by a wide array of producers by far we have to admit this is going to be an interesting journey for Kaz. Her style has completely changed and on a few tracks such as the attached and featured track you can tell her demeanor totally different. I have had the honor of sitting down and spending time with Kaz for a while, overtime you will realize there is a small little fierce rapper yearning to come out and be a part of the Nicki Minaj, Lil Kims, Lauren Hills and so forth. Kaz admires the STL’s and has always felt she can fit right into that genre if given the opportunity. I personally don’t think its a smart move but creatively it seems to allow her to express so much more and cover so much more ground musically – Its like a FEMALE/ Local DRAKE which I applaud.

So in honor of her new style and album approach here is Run Run Run which was produced by Mandugu Digital – Please let us know what you think. Kaz is an artist we support and as such we would highly appreciate all feedback given. We think this journey as risky as it feels its very promising and we are actually loving the single which is getting a lot of airplay in Kenya currently.

Syd – Clande

When some people come knocking on your door sometimes you gotta be courteous enough to just open, so when Ambrose comes knocking on our door we always feel compelled to open it super wide. Ambrose (Mandugu Digital / Dunga) has been working on some new material for Syd spurring a string of recent hits including Uta Du featuring Bobby Mapesa.

However he wanted me to highlight this song as one of his hit singles. I think we debuted this song a while back on the GetMziki Faceoff between Syd and Q-Tac… It was the Clande Faceoff – Check out the results here: Syd vs Q-tac. However today we have a little more info on Syd so atleast we can highlight this song alone and give you some background on the kid.

SYD” aka Sidney Kamau started music in 2002. He first started in a studio called herbal records that was run by Hilton “herbalist” Mwakio Juma and Victor “maichblaq” Maina. This is where he met the late K-rupt who was the brother to the herbalist. In 2003, he did the song “CHACHA” featuring the late K-rupt in the ogopa Djs Studios. Later that year in November, we lost our brother Calton “K-rupt” Juma through the hands of car jackers. 2004, released a song called African Bam Bam produced by Dan Pondera .

After that, he took a long break due to unavoidable circumstances and then moved to Blue Zebra Studios. This is where he then released the song Msamaha featuring Mr. Lenny. After the song, he then featured in a song called Sioni Tena with Gaddaffi. He later took a veryyy long Paternity leave to go and enjoy being a father and after that, it is this year (2009) that he has come back to the musical scene with a bang and promising hits from the new and improved SYD.

Kama – Cant You See (GetMziki Exclusive *****)

kama_album_art

There are days I get new music and I sit on the songs so that I can reserve initial judgement. Then there are days like today when Mandugu Digital hits me with a CLASSIC that I cant hold my mouse very long. Real TALK am sambazaing the song roho safi! This song is FIRE – I’ve always known Kama can spit (Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau). Especially after seeing him over and over again on Hip Hop Colony. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that Mike (the Director of HipHop colony) was up to some good when he hand picked Kama as one of the story tellers in the documentary, because lets face it – this man can spit.

If you are a strong HipHop head like me then you will appreciate this track as much as I am. The sample remind me of Primo (DJ Premier), it feels so New York, yet so Ukoo Fulani MauMau – It feels so gutter, it feels so street, it feels so – Kalamashaka – It feels so KAMA. It feels like real African Hiphop and its wicked. Ambrose big up on the track coz this is a killer sample, its just what reminded me of how much I used to enjoy those You Kay Double Oooo tracks (UK double O – UKOO).. (For the slow guys thats how Ukoo fulani pronounce their group name on their rhymes).

Anyway am just excited today coz its been a while since Ive heard a Powerful song like this one .. So GM fans enjoy –

Brand New: Syd feat Bobby Mapesa – Uta Do

This is not necessarily a new song, but Amby sent it over a few weeks ago together with the video attached. If am not wrong Syd was under Ted Josiahs camp at one point or the other (Blue Zebra) its been a while since I kept up with the local gossip columns however this track is surely a testament that he is still alive and relevant.

Bobby Mapesa is from the bugz and we featured him on a previous track here afew months ago. Collectively I think the pair makes this Uta do track interesting. The beat isn’t really like anything Mandugu Digital would do – meaning its missing the bounce. But its still an interesting worthy track to put on high rotation.

We apologize the track wasn’t linking well before but thats all resolved now
