There are numerous artists on the grind in Africa and with the advent of social media sites and the web, it's sometimes gets so hard to know who's who. I first heard about Kijani sometime last year and we are now featuring them on the site. According to their sound-cloud page, Kijani “is all-girl group from Nairobi, Kenya, comprising of twins Caroline and Elizabeth Njuguna, and Christine Chege. The group is signed to Cypher Studios. The group members are currently University students in Nairobi.
“Kijani’s music is a reflection of the member’s lives, girl power but at the same time enjoyable music with a positive message. They are great friends and their chemistry effortlessly comes across in their music. The group does not ascribe to a single lead singer and
each member’s distinctive style and individuality is apparent in the music. These artistes challenge themselves to think outside the box and intend to set trends musically in East Africa. Their music is not confined to a specific genre, though on the debut album the influences have come mainly from Pop, Trance and RnB. They are inspired by Freshly Ground, Magic system, Angelique Kidjo, Suzanne Owiyo.”
Do Kijani have what it takes to make a mark in the over crowded Kenyan Music industry……
