I had the grand opportunity of working with TID for a little over a year after he had fumbled with an event in Kenya. The Kenyan market was unforgiving, regardless of whose fault it was – the reality is that they had completely blocked their mind from letting Khaleed Mohammed get on stage any other day after he jammed to perform at Carnivore one fine Saturday.
My job was simple, kindly reinstate this artist in the East African market whilst giving him the image and grand appeal he deserves. Together with Seven (some tough ass, fine ass chile) one of my good friends soon to be – we embarked on a journey that was bitter sweet. Ive never worked with anyone with as much passion as Seven (better known as Christine M) but truthfully if there is a chile who will work for what they believe in, its this chile. Several months later we had an album, which was a compilation of all the East African talents and producers. The hit single is what I am sharing today – It was an instant club banger, blessed by Kenya’s Dr Dre (Musyoka).
TID never really got the Kenyan market back as well as he had hoped to, but to me I think that album was probably his best album to date. I will hopefully share the entire album with his/their permission in time but for now here is “Watasema Sana” an old track to commemorate one of East Africa’s finest artiists. Working with TID was a challenge because his lifestyle was a little exuberant and fiilled with drama, but the reality is that the cat was talented. PERIOD.
Today TID sits in a cell in Dar es salaam, after being charged with battery, his fans hope that the president will pardon him in December so that he can get back to doing what he loves. Which is making good music, talking to his people recently – I hear he is struggling in there, but we all wish and pray for the best for him.
